That's too bad, but I hope this means Toyota will step their game up and give us more models along the same level as the Skyline/G35, WRX Sti, and the Evo 8.

From what i've heard, there's still going to be a 8th gen Celica but it won't be imported over here.

I doubt that's going to happen. I wouldn't be surprised if the Celica and MR2 come back as a Scion.

Wrong. The exchange rate has favored japanese built vehicles for something like over a year now. Honda has shifted much of it's Accord production back to Japan.

Toyota charges too much for both the celica and mr-s plain and simple. I wanted to buy a celica during my last car purchase but the prices were ridiculous.

SOmething told me that was goina happen when they marketed scion for the younger generation.. Celica and MR2 were the oddballs in the toyota line. It's official, toyota well never return to their glory days, all their cars are marketed to the middle age middle class and the acronym TRD is becoming nothing more than a joke.

The Corolla Is officially the last toyota i will ever own.

I don't mind the trucks (tacomas)...but the new XRUNNER that is coming out resembles the american companies...kinda sucks, but that thing is huge...

hmmm wat was toyota thinking when they slapped a 25k+ sticker on the celica gts? and the same price on the mrs. Thats prolly wat killed the sales. You kno wat you can get for 25k in the sport compact market now a days.

Wasn't there word of this way back when they first started the scion brand?

This is the same thing that Toyota has been doing since 89. The supra was a mildly affordable sports luxary car in 87 with the debu of the Turbo model. After that the prices climbed year to year till finally in 98 Emissions laws and a 40-50 thousand dollar price killed sales. I think really they are trying to get back to basics with the upcoming models, you see the scion brand is a affordable, fun, and heavily equipt line, this is alot like when toyota first came out. A affordable high quality gas saving import on par with it's expensive gas chugging competion. But don't worry, I am sure that they will bring there ole fatethfull lines back, just hope they learn from the scion brand and keep to there Bang for the buck attitude

I knew since last year when I read it in car and driver, but then by the mid of this year, there were a lot of rumors floating around that Toyota is coming out with a new more powerful Celica with a new engine and that the 2ZZ was passed on to Corolla XRS and Matrix XRS. It was expensive because Toyota did not manufacture Celicas in Canada or the US, but kept it in Japan. It is definitely a very sad day. Celica goes as far back as 1977 when Toyota used to have Celica Supra as well. Celica had competed in countless rallies in the 80s and early 90s. Toyota did announce the intention of making a lot of sporty cars, but I think they will be doing what Acura has been doing. Eliminating all the real sport coupes and incorporate sportiness in all the family sedans/coupes making them sport sedans since the market for 2 door sport coupes is diminishing. Acura would probably discontinue the RSX next year, which is poor in sales as well.

I would have bought a spyder in the first place if they didn't cost so much. I am still getting one but it will have to be used since I can't afford a brand new one. I better get one soon now that I read this!!

u can still get it used..big deal if u really want it.

car dealers are bitchin consumers...u can get a 2000 gts for like 13k....thats a good deal for a clean car. If i had about 4k more id get a GTS over a heavily modded civic jus cuz the GTS is soo pimp with the action package.

Yeah Celica GT-S S Tsunami Package (Action Pack) is definitely a head turner. It is in sharp contrast to the boring look that the current Celica had in the first production year

if they still had an all-trac or a GT4 then the celica would be alive. But the celica and mr2 become way over priced and they stopped putting the 3SGTE's in them. Thats where they screwed up.

So whats the top power toyota now??

big deal man, I'm glad Toyota takes out this two man Celica looks like crap and mr2 same thing, Toyota needs a car with power and looks to boost the sales up, I would never spend over 20 G's in any of them since there ain't no looks or power in any of the two and YES the new Solara looks like ass lol

Volta was just a publicity stunt. That kind of car will never get mass produced. It had that Ferrari/Lamborghini look to it and history is a proof that those kind of cars are produced in very limited quantities since their insurance is super high, lack of practicality and lack of everyday driving use to the grocery store. Toyota Supra on the other hand could very well be the answer to Toyota's big gap for a fast muscle car and they could keep the production cost low by producing it in Canada or US ( for NA market).
