I have prob the only modded Rolla in ther state of Michigan. I constantly get asked "why ya wanna do stuff to this POS?", or, is this a Saab? I told one scarlet throated (red neck) mechanic that it was a secret test Ferarri and I think the Anal Orifice actually believed me for a minute......

do ppl look at you funny when u are askin them a question about your corolla? especially when your trying to fix it up and its an auto? especially when u ask them about major upgrades... like big brake kit? turbo? tranny upgrade/swap... engine work? etc?

i called like 10 tranny shops today and they all paused for 5-10 seconds... when they ask me what car i have and i said a "2002 toyota corolla."

some even started to "laugh" or think im crazy.... one guy said... "is that some type of race car? *blah blah blah* the last time i worked on a race car... was back in the 70's"

i think its funny listenin to their answers and replies...

oh and when i say i want to get a torque converter installed. then say... wuts wrong with the car... or ask me why... i said nothing is wrong... just want to add a high stalll converter... they were like... um... ok... you have turbo or osmething in there? i said "yea"... and they would go... is that thing stock? lol...

i dont think we get enough respect 4 our rides....

Well no shit, it's a corolla? I'd laugh too if someone asked for a highstall converter for a corolla.

When ever someone starts asking things, or starts bashing my car I point them towards CC or VVTI, that usually shuts them up.

Anything pre 84 or so (84-87 GTS is an exception) are the only corollas recognized by alot of american performance gurus.

Why? FWD came in 84 or 85. Anything older is RWD.

try having an import engine here in australia... especially in a hatch. ppl look at you as if your bsing them or ask why i want to do up a family car.. it sucks big time..

i get crap only from 2 of my friends who drive domestic and hate everything else but i really dont care. i get alot people thinking i have a camry too but that doesnt bother me either. i still get more props than crap from people especially at school i would have people coming up to me asking if i was the kid with the corolla and started asking me about the car. kinda cool i guess

to be honest i hated my rolla wen i had it. In terms of being reliable and cheap on gas i loved it. When it came to car modding i hated it. Fixing up a rolla is a dead end. If your going show then thats another story. Any car can be a show car. My next car will definately be tuner friendly (civic/integ) cuz i dont give a damn if "everyone else" has one.

see, when a shop laughs at what i drive, i know not to take my business there. even the guys at my work(chevy dealership) respect the car for what it is...they like mine, because it's tastefully done...even the rednecks like my little red thing.

i just can't stand people who laugh at what a car is, without recognizing the potential of said car. hell, when i told the owner of the shop that's doing Derrick's paint that i was doing a 91 Z24, he lauded the idea...

but then again, that shows the difference between a mechanic, and someone who truly knows his stuff.

nah, AE86 were also RWD, the last year for that was 87 (in teh states, not sure about elsewhere) so teh first fwd was 88, or the AE92.

The only good shop MN to take your import specializes in DSM cars. I roll into the lot this weekend and everyone just about started laughing. Most Rolla's don't even get respect from Civic owners. Our cars are some of the most hated of all imports in the tuning world. Every place I call asking for parts or seeing if they can do customer work (i.e. turbo etc) for my car never call me back, ignore me, or take few mins doing some research on the net just to say "nope, no one makes one". I had a Civic before and everybody wanted me to do stuff to it. I bought a Rolla to be different, now everyone asks me "WHY a Corolla". I hate it.....Not to mention the fact that everything costs A LOT for our cars when compared to other imports, most shops look at me like "Why do you want a $2000 suspension? You know you drive a Corolla right!"

If I had guns and murder was legal.....j/k

On the flip side, my car HAS NO POWER and the most I could drag out of it, even with a custom turbo would be 200hp at the wheels, maybe 300 (bye bye tranny, axels, etc) on upgraded internals, but still, with the stuff you can buy off the shelf for a Civic, Integra, Eclipse, etc, you can get those cars well over 400 or 500 ponies with a beefed up tranny and drive axels for the same price you could squeeze 300 ponies out of a uber custom Rolla. If I had $100K to spend on my car, I would, just so I could get some stuff made for our cars and then start showing some DSM, Honda, Ru owners what's up....

Oh well...I have to go now so I can build my bridge and get over it.

i think civics are fixed more up often is because they're available in a 2 door coupe trim, our corollas from 93 and up, were all only made in four doors..i guess the fact that it's a 2 door makes it more sporty..and if some ricers talk crap about me fixing up my rolla..i just stop the car, switch keys, jump into my SI, and burn the crap out of them..=D

well...all i can say is props to all you out there makin' a difference...it IS appreciated =)

hmmm, i got alot of recgonition for my car when i was still in HS, my car was in the yearbook, on Pirate TV (schools lil news thing) about 3 times...(that i know of) and some other shit here and there. i always had pple comin up to me goin, yeah, where did you get this and that? what kinda car is it? looks nice. it was kinda cool, and there were always the haters who i ignored.

Yeah, I gotta say even with just the TRD body kit, the most common question I get is, "What kind of car is that." Most people don't believe it is a Corolla. When I get my new body kit here in the next few weeks I bet people really won't know what it is lol.

that pisses me off. its funny too because although the corolla is a high econ car...and some one mentioned this already...but the civic is too. and we got better consumer report ratings!!!plus...the new civics look like trash. the only other car in the same price range i would go with is an acura integra gs-r. but no civic for me.
