    CAI question

ok, i think about the other month i got my CAI made. and the hole for the air sensor was too small for the air sensor to fit in, i just put it half way in. and its also stretching the wires on the air sensor, and sometimes later on it might just snap. so i was wonderin, could i just take out the air sensor and leave it hangin there? and could i get a air breather to replace the air sensor?
cuz pretty soon that air sensor is gonna rip right off. the 2 wires that is.

the air sensor is EXPENSIVE! its about 80 dollars just for the tip...make sure its snug in there..otherwise-itll send a different message to the computer =it measure ohms or resistance based on the temperature of the incoming air- dont mess around with it-also-mine stretches alot too-its being pulled really hard buy the cord-so what you need to do is unwrap the electric tape holding it down, this will give you more slack in the line..

the sensor doesnt measure airflow, there is no such thing on old school corolla...low temps produce a high resistance value, while high temps produce low resistance values... The iat sensor alters the voltage according to the temperture of incoming air. the voltage signal sent back to the ECM will be high when the high temps are cold and low when they are warm...on 00 models-the Iat sensor is incorperated into the MAF sensor...oh btw HK, do you already have a CAI? i didnt understand your first post...b/c im just curious if you have one yet or not-and how you managed to "make" it..

oh and DONT cut any wires- unless your an expert with sodering... just UNWRAP the electric tape thats wraped around it-like a candy cane pattern- and that will give it lots of stack...also ROTATE the intake slightly downwards so it meets the sensor more easily-are you using the old rubber grommet that came out of your oem airbox?

oops, you are right. Thinking of the MAF. Anyway, I think it is still best for it to be in there tightly, and give back the right readings to the ECU. :D

$80!? thats insane, for that lil thing? man i could make my own. lol
well cutting the tape would leave some slack for the air sensor. but i dont wanna mess up by cutting some of the wires.
and ok, if it measures the air, the godamn air is hot. the whole frigin engine is hot. it would still be the same.

It measures airflow. There is really not airflow in your engine when comapred to the intake. This tells the computer how to mix the air/fuel for your engine.

and also, the air sensor is not completely snug in. its half way in. the tip is in but the other half is not.

and heres a stupid question. since the air sensor is made up of 2 wires, could i just cut those wires, splice it, and connect it with another 2 wires? i want to make it long enough to reach the grill. cold air is blowin in, eh..

Mine is just hanging in the engine bay..*shrug*

Maybe that's why I didn't notice any difference with the intake. Heh.

When I drill the hole for the n2o line, I might as well drill a hole for the air sensor..ah, the joys of using the wrong intake for the wrong year.. :p

You should be able to extend the cables, but I would try to soder them, and then tape them so that the connection does not become loose. The sensor should go all the way in. Which CAI do you have?

ok D samurai, i got the CAI at the end of last month, i think.
at the muffler shop. and the 1st pipe was made to fit the TB was way to far from the IAT sensor. i wish i had a pic or something, but i dont.

so i what i wanted to do is, well cut the wires on the IAT sensor, and connect it with some neon wires that i had left around the house. then route it round the battery box to the front grill. i think it'll work.

if you do the resistor thing, don't buy it offa ebay....just go to radio shack...

also....do NOT cut and splice in wires...more wire means more resistance (however minute), it means that your ECU will not adjust the air/fuel ratio properly because the readings will be fucked up.
