I spoke to the Monster sales rep once. I was a Junior in Electrical Engineering at the time and challenged him on the principles of his products. He claimed that Monster speaker wire and audio cables are specially designed to transfer all frequencies of audio at the same velocity through the cable so that everything is perfectly in phase when it reaches the other end. I told him that audio signals don't transverse at different speeds anyway until they're converted from pure electrical energy to sound through a medium like a speaker. I then drew a picture for him and he got pissed off. He also claimed that gold connections conducted better, which is a lie that defies physics. I
think Monster Cable is the Bose of connectors/wire, high price, high profit, little substance.

I bought a Wal-Mart wiring kit..heh..it works fine, but the inline fuse is about the crappiest I've ever seen -- my system cut out on me several times yesterday..I'm thinking the fuse is losing contact. Just another thing to fix..

monster cables are kind of a joke in the enthusiast crowd... they charge an arm and a leg, and their build quality isnt anything to write home about..

as far as cables making a difference, here is the real truth..

    1. for rca wires, once you go to a twisted pair wire, a 6 dollar pair from radio shack is as good as a 500 dollar pair from audioquest.. in order for a cable to meet an IEEE twisted pair standard,, it has to be wound a certain way.. that winding technique inherently cancels from the main body of the cable.. nothing it is made from will change that, so it suseless to buy super expensive twisted pair cables.. generally a twisted pair cable with one extra layer of shielding is all you will ever need in a car environment

    2. as for the whole gold conducting better thing, thats just a proven fact. gold, copper, and platinum conduct electrons far better than steel, iron, and aluminium, not all metals are the same. oddly enough, the cheapest metal of them all ( copper ) is the best conducting, however it also corrodes over time and looks terrible, which is why it is never used for connectors. gold and platinum also offer much superior noise rejection than iron or steel, which offer nearly none... copper is also one of the best electrical noise reducing metals..

    3. for speaker/power wires, all that matters is that you get the right sized wire for your power application, and that the copper is stranded ( for flexibility ) and de-oxygenated... anything other than that is either an outright lie, or marketing gimmick and will have no effect on your sound quality whatsoever.

for speaker wires/cables i highly recommend knukonceptz wires. they are very affordable, and built much better than their much more expensive competition. its the only brand i will run in my car for rca's

On Monster's own website they state:

"and heavy-duty 24k gold connectors increase conductivity"

    Yet, physics states this:

    Resistivities at room temp:
    Element Electrical resistivity (microohm-cm)

    Aluminum 2.655
    Copper 1.678
    Gold 2.24
    Silver 1.586
    Platinum 10.5

Lower is better. So how does gold increase conductivity? They should have silver plated connectors.

yep its always funny when people buy the most expensive cables then act like it makes a difference.

they are probably referring to aluminum.

i used to work at radio shack, and they sold the gold connector cables for TV for alot more than the silver ( dont know the metal )

but ironically i work for comcast now, and yes the gold serves a little better, but its like .0001 db differance, and it only lasts about a month, then it makes the cable signal worse,

i went to a customers house the other day and he had a monster cable digital audio cable, and the end just about fell off because they are only screw on ends, i mean even our component video cables are one piece and cant fall apart so easy
