    I not totally sure

    but....

I think that all of the cars made in america have to be able to pass California emissions. In order to be able to drive your car in North America, you have to be able to pass California emissions. I think that because, you can drive into California from any other state, and not have a problem until you go to register your car, then you have to pass Calimissions. I don't think that your car has anything that the other ones don't. I know that you wouldn't be able to take your catalytic converter off, because everytime you have to get your tags renewed you have to get your car inspected. Here in the hills of Tennessee, you don't have to get your car inspected, so you can do whatever you want basically, until you get caught. There are other standards in Cali that there aren't other places though. I think that the best bet would be to go to the DMV and ask for a compliance manual of somekind.

i think most, if not all, of our cars were made at the NUMMI plant in Fremont, CA.

Only the ones intended for the CA market would have the CA emissions setup, IF there are seperate CA + 49 state models.

as far as i know - if you have ca. emissions, it's different.
i also know that usually, with ca. emissions - your car have less horsepower compared to the same model from another country or state. i read about this before on the internet but i'm not sure if it's still the same nowadays.

You can tell by the first digit of the VIN # 1=US Built. 2=Canadian built.

california has the strictest smog laws. your car can have cleaner emmisions than a hybrid and still fail because of a visual inspection.

also, california also has crap gas. In california, the best milage i could get was 33mpg. Once i bought gas outside of california lines, i was getting 42 mpg

california has its own standards. on every honda in our brochure they have an *next to ever model saying, "In California the horsepower is 5HP Lower than other models" has something to do with the catilitic converter.

I got mine in Nevada and then brought it over to Cali. I think the difference is 5 hp. Not that much.

You guys are just too funny... EVERY U.S. Corolla built since '96 (and '95 1.8 litre models) is a 50-state car... They all put out the same hp in any given state (altitude notwithstanding). And you don't have to have California emissions to be able to drive in California... you don't even have to have CA emissions to register in CA.

And where it was built has no bearing on what emissions package it has... Following your strange reasoning, I could say '93 was built in Japan it has JDM emissions.... see what I'm getting at? My Japan-built '93 has CA emissions, which puts output down to 110 hp from 115 for 49-state models that year.

funny... my ae92 is actually made in japan :p

anyways..... if it was originally bought/sold in california... then it will have the stricter california emissions (one of my mr2's is like this, one isn't).... there will be a sticker on the underside of the hood mentioning something about "CA Emissions" or something along those lines
