    Sucking sound from intake... normal?

I've had my SRI for about a year now, but someone just asked me something which made me kinda scared. Is it normal for there to be a loud sucking or hissing sound when starting the car up? If I'm idling, the sound usually continues for about 5 mins after I start, but then it goes away if I idle for longer than that or if I start to drive. Normal?

BTW, when I installed my SRI I didn't remove all of the stock airbox piping, cause I was hoping that would funnel some air into the engine bay. Well a couple of days ago while I was installing the JDM headlights I decided to go ahead and remove all of the stock intake tubing.... it made a hell of a difference. The sound is meaner now under acceleration and the car pulls alot harder, especially from a stop. So if you have your stock intake plumbing in and you have a SRI, take the stock tubing out.

Its normal. The car is louder when its cold so I guess it sucks in more air or idles higher making the sucking sound loud. My car does the same thing with my CAI, but quiter when it gets warmer or also after I start driving it.

My next mission is to make a CAI without having to relocate the battery.

why would u have to relocate the battery on the 93-97??? isn't the intake manifold at the top instead of the bottom like the 98-02??? I dk man datz weird.....

Yes, the intake manifold is located at the rear of the engine on 93-97's. There isn't enough space to run an intake pipe between the battery and the fender. You could probably move the coolant catch tank and slide the battery towards the passenger side of the car, or ever turn the battery 90* to free up some space.
