Freakin' door panels won't come off.

Ok, I've got an 01 with manual windows. I need to replace my speakers and I want to do some paint work and see about converting my doors to power locks. But, I can't get the damn door panel off. The only thing holding it on is the window crank. Does anyone know how to remove this without ruining the door panel or crank? I'm sick of fighting with it and I'm ready to get it done.

there's a pin holding the crank on. use a rag or something to that effect, and slide it under the crank. with enough force the pin will come out.

I ripped a towel, couldn't find the pin so I gave up. This is freakin rediculous. And why is the door panel two pieces with little spots melted together? That's rediculous too.

you can try getting a screw driver, and find one of the two ends of the little pin. then push on one of those edges with the screw driver, and it should push out.

Thing is, I can't even see the clip. I've got my a nd c-pillar covers off, my 3rd brake light cover off, working on removing the rear speaker covers and then I'm at the door again.
I miss my MR2. Pull on it and bam! it's off.

the oldest trick in the book. if you have the towel i am sure that you have a flat headed screw driver. put the towel all around the windows cracnk moving the oppisite way. there should be a gold clip that starts to mover when you get it up enough just pry it out with the screw drivier.

if the door panels has never been removed before it can be kind of tricky. just work around it with a towel or a shirt you will get it.

Have you tried to push in the area around the crank ??, you should be able to see the clip. CW

The clip isn't the clearish/white piece that goes around the entire crank piece is it?

No, I think that is just a plastic washer. The clips used to be a gold color shaped similar to U or Ohms sign. CW

from my experience, u crank the thing until it's facing upwaed, like... the small round part u hold on is at 12:00 (like the hands on a clock), this is the key, if it doesnt face up the ends of the clip will not get caught by the towel and u'd be just wasting time. Then fit a towel then just pule the towel on both end like some guy cleaning shoes at trainstation, just go back and forth and the pin will come loose. save urself the money and dont bother with the crank removal tool, the towel method is just as easy.

    good luck

12:00 position worked great. Thanks for all the help, little bastard flew across the driveway into the yard and had a little fun searching, but at least it's off.

I'm sure ALL of us have at some point or will at some point have to deal with that damn window crank clip. But once you figure it out... life is much easier. I remember spending a good 20 minutes one day playing 'find the little clip', after the damn thing flew past my face at 1000 MPH.
