i really want a scion tc or a corolla xrs... maybe i could pull off the scion tc... and as for if i do get stuck with a jetta, itll be purely base... thats what my bro got.

Man, Jetta is the best compact car in terms of fit, finish and quality. Corolla is probably the closest to Jetta as compared to other brands ( interior material, minimum 4 mm tolerance body panels are the only second to Jetta), but still no match yet. Yes, you might have issues with reliability, component failures since Jettas are known for it. If your dad is buying it for you, what else could you ask for?

so today my old man tells me that my car is going to the local vw dealership soon to be appraised. im not likin the sound of that. id much much rather have a toyota or scion... but he's all about the vw's nowadays. so i may get dicked over with a jetta (drove my brothers, hated it... loved my corolla much more)

i dont think vws are that bad. i wouldnt mind having a jetta or a gti...something like that.

i just really dont care for them... ive driven mostly toyotas all my life and im so accustomed to them its sick... i love where everything is placed, its natural to sit down and know where everything is.

I feel for you man. I grew up in Toyotas (literally)..LOL. When I graduated from university and got my first car, it was a Toyota. My current 04 Corolla S has been so fabulous that following the pattern, there are many more Toyotas to come in my life.

I wouldnt mind getting a Jetta VR6 or GTI VR6 or even better R32

im in a similar situation right now. my sister totalled my 97, and now my dads looking to get us a new car. I want something different, and something quicker and w/ a better stock suspension than my corolla had. Looking for a 01+ Civic Coupe or 99 Accord Coupe. Be glad your dad is getting you a car, and a Jetta's not bad.

My dads really frustrating me right now. He told me to look for 99'+ and around $10K, yet he's pointing out POS's that are $5K and we've yet to look at a single car yet.........ahhhh its driving me crazy.

Dont get the VR6, the 1.8T has so many more speed options then the VR6.

hahah... true... but ive been drivin since i dunno... i was about 14'ish because my brothers were cool as hell about it... and even back then i was driving my corolla that i have now... so chalk about 5+ years up to a toyota and im gonna still say all my life. and the only reason my dad wants a damn vw is because he's pretty damn mechanically stupid. car salesmen can sell him on anything. example:
"well the guy said this car has dual overhead cams... so it must be fast."
"dad, your car right now has dual overhead cams."
"huh???"

i never said new... theres no guarentee the man will get me a new car... he bought both of my brother's brand new cars at one time or another, but not me. (my corolla was actually one of my brother's brand new car... but he turned the damn thing into a shitbox... my floormats are destroyed and the carpets are all stained... it sucks)

Tell your dad about VVTi, and how it "saves on gas" while "improving performance"...make sure you overdo it like all the avertisements. Tell him how Toyotas keep their value. Just tell him you want a toyota.
