What speed do they deploy? When I nearly totalled my car they didn't go off, but I wasn't going very fast (the other car was). Or is it measured by the impact more than speed? Usually when my friends want to remove an airbag, they just step out of the vehicle (ha-ha)...

    Removing airbags?

I've looked into removing the airbags on my 99 Rolla, for various reasons, but don't intend to until I get my 4pt harness installed. And idea how complecated this could be, if there's and precations I need to take when doing it, to say, avoid deploying the airbags, or how much weight this is going to remove from my car?

just discon the battery and unplug the airbags but you would deffinately get a airbag warning light.

I have street legal Schroth 4pt harnesses myself but I leave the airbag connected for insurance reasons

You don't technicaly have to tell the insurance its gone, but those TRD airbag steering wheels look cool, maybe i don't have to remove them... You and fully remove the airbag system stuff...

Well you technically dont but I dont want it to look suspicious that my airbags didn't deploy.. (probably better if they dont especially in 15mph collisions, they ARE costly).

Those TRD steering wheels do look nice but they cost a really pretty penny.. Some of us incld me swapped to a Celica wheel for a more sporty look and a all around better wheel..

get one of the newer celica wheels...the leather covered ones. they look a lot better than the stock for anything other than an S wheel(or a current corolla wheel) and they still have bags.
