    RX-8 test drive

well my 18yr old cousin (who is 5 months younger than me :( ) jus bought an RX-8. Lets jus say he'll be in debt for a VERY long time. He got all the options including the navi. Anyway...he was over yesterday and it was the first time ive seen his car. The interior is nice and the CD is the best ive seen. The Stock bucket seats are better than the average but no where near Recaro or Sparco seats. Even tho they were leather they held up in the canyons(i need to grab sumthin to keep me in my rolla cloth seats). The clutch is super smooth for being a new car. Compared to the Accord V6 6spd i drove...the accord's clutch was very stiff. The rx-8 6spd shifter is short and clean. All gears seem to glide in. Very short throws. When racing...the accord v6 is faster but the RX-8 get all the heads turning. I wouldnt buy one because it seems weak but its a very nice sports car that all the females will be on your jock for.

I used to have a love affair with Mazda. Started when my mechanic friend turned me on to his 85 626 5 door it was so nice. I owned a couple of 626 models 86 LX and a 91 DX but the real legend for me was an 87 B2200 SE-5 pickup, she was pushing 14 years and 200k and the frame cracked, The people who owned it scrapped it out.

The RX-8 is a nice looking car but you have to consider this is the first year for those and there may be some bugs to work out yet??

The other issue is the gas mileage and the insurance cost, hell I can hardly afford to keep my Corolla in gas and insurance coverage.

I just wish we could stiil get some Japanese built cars they were incredible !!

I see a lot of 86 models still on the road !! And clear up to the last ones in 92 you could predict where they were going to rust out in both the bed and the rear wheel wells. They are incredible machines though. Rust was the only thing that would stop them. CW

AGREED. there's a few of them on ebay i keep looking at...i like them, and when i move out i'm going to need something that can handle cargo...and be a beater vehicle...so i'm considering one of them.

My dad drove his friends from work and was impressed but the clutch. He said the power was good. But he felt the shifter was a little too short for his liking.

But an 18 year old doesn't need an RX-8.

    i believe it's still a 2-rotor.

    they've always made a 3-rotor, but it's used in race-only applications.

The only 3 rotor motor was in the Mazda Comso in japan. Its similar to the Mazda 929 sedan in the US.

All RX cars in the US have always been 2 rotor.

my friend test drove an RX-8. he picked up me and our other friend and we pretty much went for a joy ride around cleveland for about half an hour. best part was when he dropped us off he revved the thing to 9000 rpm's for about 4 seconds before he left...that was about as nice a sound as you're gonna hear this side of a Ferrari
