    What a day...

Man, today was a trying day for me and automobiles...

First off, I got my new headlights, yay! So I drive to my Mom's place to go pick them up. After I get off the freeway and as I'm pulling up to the house the engine shuts off all of a sudden (almost as if I stalled it) but I was in neutral and coasting up to the house. As a result of this, the steering and brakes get really firm and I nearly hit a row of garbage cans on the street. I parked it (meaning I let it sit where it came to rest) and left it to cool off a bit. When I came back out after looking at my new headlights I try to start it up... all I get is cranking of the starter but the engine doesn't turn over

I end up getting it towed to my mechanic, following it in my Mom's Explorer. I decided to be a good son and fill up the gas tank for my mom and all I can say is "Dayyuum!" I filled it less than 3/4 of a tank and it was $30  I'm really glad that I drive a Rolla...

To continue the lovely day I decide to take the bus and shuttle from Sacramento to Davis. Well, the direct line only runs twice a day and I missed those times so I have to take FOUR different lines to get out to my apartment. The first line that I wait for is late by nearly 15 minutes. Two blocks after I get on the back door gets jammed and won't shut so I have to get off the bus and wait for the next one to come, another 15 minutes. So, since I got the later bus I missed the next connection in my series and had to skateboard nearly a mile to catch the shuttle from the UCDMC in Sac to the UCD campus in Davis.

Fortunately, that bus didn't have any problems. Whew... The last connection is from the campus to my apartment and what do you know, that bus had to stop to fix a busted rear door.

All in all, it took me over two hours to make the normally 20 minute commute to Davis with three of the five vehicles I was on breaking down. And, since my car's in the shop I didn't get to install the new lights... :(

    Jeesh. What a day.

I just got a call from the mechanic and he sid the the problem is probably a part in the Distributer so I'd need to get a new dist. Toyota wants $400+ for it and a reman is still $300+.

Is there somewhere to get a good dist. cheaper (and soon)?

You mean the distributor cap, as in where the 4 spark plugs go to? If so i didnt know they were that much. Ummm ebay maybe, or find one in a junk yard with low / decent miles?

No, the part that's not working is the position sensor.

Yikes! The definitely would have been one to add to the "What a day..." column. I hope that you can get that fixed soon and cheaply.
