there were many variations of the names of different corollas.... generally.... :

sprinter = the same as our geo prizm's (for the 4 doors... but some coupes had sprinter on them as well, depending on where the car is)

trueno = similar to our coupes here in the US (to an extent) through 1991... in other places of the world they got them for several years after 1991 unlike us

levin = that body style coupe we didn't get.... had non-flip up headlights.... but similar to the trueno otherwise

    chasis code breakdown for ae92:

    A = A series motor (ie.... 4ac, 4af, 4afe, 7afe, 4age, 4agze, yadda yadda...)
    E = "corolla" chasis (ie.... W in aw11 = mr2, T in st185 = celica)
9 = debateable... i always heard it was the generation of that previous letters chasis... so 9 or 10 would be that generation (but this is up for debate)
2 = debateable... i always heard it was the version of the generation of the previous number (ie, 2 would be the 2nd version of the 9th generation)

so... an ae102 is "supposedly" an A series motor, E for corolla, 10 for gen, 2 for version

and then for a ZZ car it would be ZZE-110 (98-02?).... etc...

Help me out with a little Corolla history please....

    Hello.
Forgive me if these are newbie questions....

    - What is the difference between the Sprinter Trueno and the Corolla Levin?
    - What is the significance of "AE86," "AE92," "AE101," and so on? Are these similar to the Silvia's s13, s14, s15, and so on?
    - How do you pronounce "Trueno?"

    Thanks!

Difference between the trueno and levin is headlights. Trueno has flip ups, levin has flat ones. Other things are a lil different too, but I don't think the powertrain is.

AE(insert # here) is the chasis code for the different year corollas. all i can tell you is that a 93 LE is AE102...other than that you'd have to ask someone else

SR-5 was one of the trims when GT-S used to be around. Except, GT-S had 110 HP while the SR-5 had around 90 HP. They both had sport tuned suspension. The last year GT-S and SR-5 came out was in 1992.

every rear wheel drive corolla between 84 an 87 in the US has the chassis code ae86

the gts has the 4age and sport suspension along with numerous different suspension, drivetrain, and interior pieces. the sr5 is pretty much good for nothing except maybe looking similar to the gts. the sr5 had the 4ac 1.6 liter carburated engine, a much weaker rear differential only coming as an open design, the seats and instrument panel are different...... yadda yadda yadda

we got no official ae85 chassis..... it does say ae85 on the firewall somewhere, but keep looking and youll find ae86 on there as well (sr5 and gts)

    That's why you drive a POS 80s corolla and I'll drive a SRT-4 in a few months, a 911 in a few years.

    AE86 GT-S came w/ LSDs i think but not the SR5

2 door coupe corolla LEVIN and Sprinter Trueno change into a fwd in 88, end there production in 98 b4 the new celica came out in 99 which is based on the newly design corolla...

93-97 corollas are AE101 and AE102 but techinically they are AE100 cuz toyota stop bringing the Corolla GTS to north america... AE101 in other countries are Corolla Levin or Trueno...

I pronounce it like its said in spanish which I think it would be like jeprox said kinda like TRU kinda like true, EH just like that eh? w/o the accent and NO like the spanish no. And yo turbo, that was wrong what you said about white > mexican, you say that cuz we are talking about spanish? If thats the reason then thats closed minded and racist. I dont care though but its just not nice.

85% of the automotive world? or 85% of 14 years olds that watch Initial D? Maybe a large portion of the import audience. I have respect for the car, but what you said made me angry. I have little patience with remarks such as the one you made.

If you want to talk on an individual basis then PM me then maybe I'll send you my resume, you can send me yours, but simply saying white is better than mexican is not right.

I know what my car is, and that's why I am not at this forum trying to turn it into a race car, but I like to see what other people have done and get a few creative ideas.

first of all i said that because his prior post before either erasing or editing was as follows "you must be white" so there ya go

and second, i honestly dont care if you think im a racist..... its truly as simple as that :D and in my opinion people who scream racist are the closeminded and simple ones

my post was in mindless retaliation to his comment, thats why i put what i did and then the convienant edit

it WAS nice to see you eat your own words, but you have to let it go bro...... its not just 14 year olds www.club4ag.com www.drifting.com www.toyotanation.com and even this board people are nuts over the car

and another thing, i also dont care about your qualifications or resume...... just as you are better off right now than i am, there are millions much better off than you...... so do you have poor self image and just spout about that to make your penis bigger or what? i mean RIGHT NOW you are driving a prism as I AM driving an 80s POS

seeing how this is a japanese car. "tó-ré-no".
the hiragana for "to" "re" and "no" would be used.

though it's hardly referred to as it's given name. mainly it's sub name "hachi-roku" which has been said already.

Dude.... When did this become a flame war?

Anyway, here's a couple things that are slightly related. This information was borrowed from RedAE102 on Toyota Owners Club

Allow me to make my contribution. I have a 1993 Corolla DX 1.8 saloon, an AE102 with a 7A-FE and a 5-speed. This is a compilation of my own research on Corollas... I have classified them into their specific generations. When it comes to model ranges as vast as the Corolla, the model code has only to do with engine and drive type, and not body style (with a few exceptions). If you find an error or omission, please let me know.

First, the E10 generation. As a rule, all numbers 106 and above are vans and business wagons (not to be confused with estates and touring wagons... vans and business wagons were predominantly a JDM affair, with the former being cheapened stripper wagons, and the latter being slightly less spartan vans, though they looked essentially the same and there is little differentiation). As always, there are a few exceptions to this rule, and those seem to mainly be early vans. Models with an asterisk (*) are still uncertain. In Japan, the 106-109 vans were sold alongside more modern E11 models, as there was no E11 van, only wagons. As a secondary note, the only E11 wagon in Japan was the Sprinter Carib (which there was no E10 variant... Caribs went from E9--->E11, overlapping the E10 models), while heavily facelifted E10 Touring Wagons continued to be sold at least through 2001.

    AE100: 1.5 5A-FE
    AE101: 1.6 4A-FE, 4A-GE 20V silvertop, 4A-GE 20V blacktop, 4A-GZE
    AE102: 1.8 7A-FE
AE103: 1.8 7A-FE (details on this model are scarce, seems to be a rare European wagon)
    AE104: 1.6 4A-FE 4WD
    AE105: 1.8 7A-FE 4WD
    *AE109: 1.6 4A-FE 4WD van/business wagon
    CE100: 2.0 2C diesel
    CE101: 2.2 3C-E diesel
    CE102: 2.2 3C-E diesel van/business wagon
    CE104: 2.0 2C diesel 4WD
    CE105: 2.2 3C-E diesel 4WD van/business wagon
    *CE106: 2.0 2C diesel van/business wagon
    *CE107: 2.2 3C-E diesel van/business wagon
    *CE108: 2.0 2C diesel 4WD van/business wagon
    *CE109: 2.2 3C-E diesel 4WD van/business wagon
    EE100: 1.3 2E, 2E-E SOHC 12-valve
EE101: 1.3 4E-FE (it's not uncommon to find people calling these cars 1.4)
    EE102: 1.3 4E-FE van/business wagon
    EE103: 1.5 5E-FE van/business wagon
    EE104: 1.5 5E-FE 4WD van/business wagon
    *EE106: 1.3 4E-FE van/business wagon
    *EE107: 1.5 5E-FE van/business wagon
    *EE108: 1.5 5E-FE 4WD van/business wagon

Keep in mind that common models such as AE101 can be a great many things. The AE101, depending upon where you are, can be a simple Corolla saloon, estate, 3 or 5 door hatchback (such as Corolla FX), 5-door liftback, Touring Wagon, a Corolla Levin or Sprinter Trueno with a high-powered GE/GZE variant, a Sprinter wagon, or a Corolla Ceres or Sprinter Marino 4-door pillared hardtop saloon. It's what comes after the basic model code that differentiates them.

    And onto the E11s.
    AE110: 1.5 5A-FE
    AE111: 1.6 4A-FE, 4A-GE 20V blacktop
    AE112: 1.8 7A-FE
    AE114: 1.6 4A-FE 4WD
    AE115: 1.8 7A-FE 4WD
    CDE110: 2.0 1CD-FTV D-4D common-rail turbodiesel
    CE110: 2.0 2C diesel
    CE111: 2.2 3C-E diesel
    CE114: 2.0 2C diesel 4WD
    EE111: 1.3 4E-FE
    ZZE110: 1.8 1ZZ-FE
    ZZE111: 1.4 4ZZ-FE
    ZZE112: 1.6 4ZZ-FE

    and the E12s:
CDE120: 2.0 1CD-FTV Common rail, direct injection turbo diesel
    CE121: 2.2 3C-E Diesel
    NZE120: 1.3 2NZ-FE
    NZE121: 1.5 1NZ-FE
    NZE124: 1.5 1NZ-FE 4WD
    ZZE120: 1.4 4ZZ-FE
    ZZE121: 1.6 3ZZ-FE
    ZZE122: 1.8 1ZZ-FE
    ZZE123: 1.8 2ZZ-GE
    ZZE124: 1.8 1ZZ-FE 4WD

I have a wealth of otherwise useless knowledge on these cars (specifically E10/E11 cars), so if anyone has any questions, don't hesitate to e-mail me at RedAE102@sbcglobal.net.
