    Question on painting plastic

I am painting my atlist grill currently for a 2003 corolla. It looked fine, but I wanted it to really shine.

I messed up at first and now I am painting it with a black high gloss paint, I have put a good amount of thin coats and it looks and feels smoothe.

The question is, it's not shiny enough. It's not like my car's body is, how come my car is shiny, but the paint i am using is not? Do I need to get some really fine sandpaper and sand it down?

What am I doing wrong? I have seen dashes painted and been super shiny, but I am afraid if I put the grill back on it won't match at all.

ever heard of clear coat. well look if you gonna paint that urathane grill...theres if a few steps on preping...gotta sand it done prolla with 320 just to rough it up...then use a urathane cleaner and solvent to clean the surface and make the surface more suitable for the paint to adhere.

I have no problem with the paint adhering. The question was with how to get a nice finish like the body of my car.

I prep'd the piece fine, I have high gloss clear coat that looks the exact same when applied as the black high gloss, since they are both high gloss.

I want to know how to get a finer color from the black, do I need to get a high grit and sand it even more even?
