    RANTING.. subaru WRX

now, i love AWD turbo just as much as the next guy, but.. have any of you had to WORK on a WRX engine?

last night, a quick "3 hour" job turned into a 9 hour nightmare..

The customer had ordered an upgraded fuel rail system from Perrin, and had been told it usually took 3 hours, so i quote him accordingly.

what i didn't know, was that the intake manifold (and all 40 hoses, brackets, wire harnesses, tubes, pipes, etc) had to be removed from the car. JUST TO GET AT ALL THE BOLTS to remove the manifold took 2 hours.

anyway, once the manifold was up, and stock fuel lines were out, the new fuel rails get bolted on..

everything gets lined back up, all is well.. i bolt everything back together, re-route certain lines that change, now that the fuel lines are different, put back in the intercooler piping, etc and start the car.

    fuel..

    everywhere..

the fucking injectors are too short for thenew fuel rail. or more accurately, the fuel rail is the WRONG DEPTH..

so.. now.. it's 3AM, and i have to have my roomate drive the customer home, because i can't possibly get it all apart, fuk with it, and back together, before i have to leave for work this morning..

i'm pissed.. and my hands are fuckin killing me

no, not in any way his fault..

the fuel rail is simply short.. these are the things that kill you when you do labor on vehicles.. your time is wasted by a simple thing like a tiny o-ring being bad, or fuel rails being short.. the 9 hours i put into the car will have to be repeated (although, much shorter this time) today when i get off work, possibly the entire weekend blown..

but it's not the customer's fault.

I guess your right, I was saying it was cuz he didn't know about the problem with the fuel rail. Im used to thinking everybody is screwing me over in life, and thats what would probaly happen in my situation.

If you have to remove all that crap just to get at the fuel rail, isn't it possible that he wouldn't even know if a new one was installed or not?? khehehe

I don't want to hear about fuel issues until you try installing baffles in fuel tanks in cars that are under warranty.

    BUT

That does suck. Is that a mass-produced rail? or specially made? I would be calling the company and "expressing my unhappyness." That intake manifold on the WRX is indeed not alot of fun.

    Hope it all works out.

Hmmm that sucks Ive never had a problem with the depth of perrin fuel rails Im actually looking at one we have installed on our display motor, We have sold tons of those and never had any complaints :( regardless I feel for you cuz with that motor most jobs are a bit rough.

WRX Fuel rail needs stuff to be removed to install yes but it is easily visible from the engine bay so he would know if it was installed lol, if you guys think thats rough try changing the cams in that car X( lol the trouble with a boxer motor.

Perrin is a decent company they make products for the Subaru WRX / STI Dodge Neon SRT-4 Mitsu EVO VIII and the Mini cooper but thats bout it. There are better compaines but Perrin is a good bang for the buck company!

alright :) the rex is back on the road and runnin rich :):) but he's happy.. new turbo on the way as well as a Walbro (i smell MORE WORK!! :):) )

the Sti injectors from japan healed the leaking problems.. dont tell me why, but they did. then threw in some Denso iridium plugs, and the car is gone! :) what a relief..
