    amp/speaker help please

    hey guys im getting a new set of eclipse aluminum 12's and they are rated at 500w rms and 1000w max, so how many watts does my new amp going to have to be to feed these monsters?

    1000 watts rms, would be the optimum

    Yeah, an amp that gives 1000W RMS under the right Ohm loads will be perfect.

    A 500 amp is all that is needed but a 1000 will give plenty of room to upgrade later. Make sure you look at the RMS value of the amp at 4 ohms, not what it says on the box. Many amp companies like to lie about there specs.

    He said a "set" I think that meant he's getting two which is why people have recommended the 1000RMS amp.

    True, but the subs could be hooked up differently to produce a lower/higher load to need only a 500W amp. They could also be going in a ported enclsure... Either way, it's probably best to go wit the 1000W anyways.

    would it be okay to use a 1200 watt one channel amp?

    that should be fine. you may want to turn the gain down a touch. I learned the hard way of what happens if you don't set your gains right...my sub blew w/in a month. :(
