Nothing at all. I've run into my limiter several times. however, its not good to do in neutral.

I keep hearing people say don't rev in neutral its the same as taking it up in gear, when dealing with damage to the engine.

    Hitting the rev limiter

Right now I am very perplexed about my mistake. I hit the rev limiter very hard today in first. I went pedal to the metal and did not keep an eye on the tacho. Before I knew, I hit the rev limiter very badly and the car braked all of a sudden with repeated vroom! kind of sound. How badly did it effect my engine in terms of wear and tear( I have never hit the rev limiter before).

blah. There is a reason for a redline and revlimiter. It helps you not damage your engine. Just take care of your motor maintance and you will be fine.

I was bouncing off the limiter for a while the other day..left a long strip of rubber, too..unfortunately it was only one.. :p

I have 144k on my engine so far - if you maintain it, I don't see how hitting the limiter could hurt. It's there for a reason..and you know Toyota leaves a decent safety margin.

i have that problem in first too..... either i get traction and 7800 comes up pretty quick (if im sleepin) or i completely lose traction and its all about the BAH BAH BAH BAH BAH!!!! with tire smoke everywhere

the rev limiter wont hurt your engine, over revving will!!! the rev limiter keeps it from over revving, so youre still within a safe margin

yeah, but i'm in an auto. it's cuz the lag is so friggin long, that when i shift at 6600 or so (redline at 6800, rev-limiter at 7150 or so) it still hits the limiter

What is redline in the newer corollas and prizms'. My 95 Prizm is labeled at 6300 rpm's with a manual transmission and a 1.6 ltr engine. What about the other models?

yea....alot of the drift cars tear up thier rev limiter.....you can hear it when they are drifting in the turns. it's that rumpapapapapapapaaaa sound....it's a rev limiter...nothingto worry about....that is why it is sat in place.....same thing as fuel cutoff...it's so you don't over tax your engine
