That is why I am leaning towards the Corolla XRS since the salesman at Toyota dealership who owned the Corolla XRS was a racer and bought it to put mods etc. on it. He shifted like a pro and kept the engine the VVTL-i zone. I know everyone around me would be soooooooo jealous if they sit inside that car while it performs :)

Well, most of them are idiots and I have seen some very arrogant sales people when I was getting the car. Yet, when you would tell them that you are a serious buyer then they would change tone, but this young Chinese guy was one of the finest salesman I have ever seen since he let me rev his car upto 8200 rpm even when it had only 92 KM on it. ( Even the person who I got my 04 Corolla S from was alright.)

No not really. Camry is way too big compared to the Corolla. About 9 inches longer

i think that the 02 looks a little bit wider and it's definitely more aggressive if you have an s. i think the 02 on teins with a lip would be very sweet.

the 01/02 body is, IMO, the best looking corolla of the modern body style. the 03 just seems too bubbly to me.

Test drive both of them and feel the difference. Purely a matter of choice. Traded my 01 LE for a piece of jewel 04 Corolla S and now fighting the craving of trading it in for any 05 Corolla XRS :) Completely different cars altogether. 03 or 04 all the way. Biggest reason was that due to my above average body size ( 5'11 and 170 lbs) 01 was too tiny for me and my legs ( 35 inseam) did were crammed in the 01. Plus, the new Corolla is the safest Corolla ever as claimed by NHTSA with a 5 star frontal and back collision test and 4 star on the side. The previous generation had only 3 stars. Applauded for breaking away from the extremely conservative and plain looks that earned Corolla an average user age of 44 and car for the old people. Now, Corolla is more accepted among younger people with the new wave. Hopefully, Toyota will come out with more exciting cars to complement the high build quality

see...i bought the 01 and had an 03 as a temp vehicle while they fixed my hood...and i HATED the 03. it made me feel extremely small...and at the same time, smooshed into the driver's seat. my 01 has the appearance of more legroom with a shorter roofline...which, IMO, makes it more sleek to the eye.

do what you will, w1ngzer0, but that's my perception.

    I got a 96 so I'm not baised

but i'd get a 02 over a 03 just for the fact that the 02 look so much more sportier.. the 03 is too fuckin huge, i'm not sure whats bigger, a 03 rolla or a rav4.. 02 headlights looks more aggressive, body isn't shaped like a bubble.. so many more reasons that i cant list..

i've got a 98, but it's way too cramped for me....my knees are almost to the middle of my steering wheel when i drive. now, correct me if i'm wrong, but the only difference in the 98-02 and the 01-02 is the front end and the engine, so i figure the interior has the same amount of space...of course i am 6'3 and like 245, so i'm a pretty big guy. i've gotten used to it, but if your lookin for leg room then don't go for the 01-02....

my girlfriend has an 03 and it's got plenty of leg room...but it is kinda bubbly looking

IMO, the body styling options of the 01-02 is better though

Depends on what your preferences are. If you want a more roomier car, then the bigger 03 is for you. If you want to make your car prettier, then the 02 would be better since it has nicer kits. What are you mostly into? Looks, comfort, power, etc.?

Accept the facts as they are. The next Corolla in 2008 will definitely be a lot better than the 03/04 since it is going to be even wider and longer and a lot more powerful according to Toyota. Check out car and driver edmunds.com and motor trend and see how they used to bash Corolla before. Corolla was never No. 1 in US or Canada in the 90s. Accept the facts as they are. 03 was the first year when Corolla nuked the Civic badly in the US with a 34% increase in sales and Civic fell 8% ( source Reuters). Yeah, I have owned both so I am the most impartial. Plus, all my friends used to hate my 01 LE and when I told them I was trading in for a new Corolla. They went "arghhhhhh not again! when are you going to get a fun car". I know since my I always get flattering comments from my family, relatives and friend about my car. No one cared about my previous Corolla. I told them I know what I am doing. Now whenever we go out of the city they are so addicted to my car that I have a hard time convincing that I am not taking my car. (One of them has a Honda Civic 2002 EX, 1996 Honda Accord LX and 1999 Mazda Protege).

I mean come on! stop pitting a Corolla model against another Corolla model. Just test drive them and decide for yourself. It would be more interesting if it were Corolla against Civic ;-)
