    Sub break in period

I was wondering if it's possible/safe to break in a sub using a signal generator and if it is, would I be able to rent one somewhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i break in my sub... lol... if u want em to last long.. then yea... but if u buy some cheap subs... then eh... who cares...

i believe they say that just dont crank it up too high for the first few weeks... and in the cold mornings or where ever its cold... you should "warm it up"... if u dont do that... then the rubber will crack/break easier... etc...

Signal generator? Just put some test tones on an audio CD and play the CD a few times over with the car in the garage or out somewhere where it won't bother others....

Well, with the sub that I had before and with most subs, there is a reccomended break in period of somewhere between 40 and 80 hours before playing it at full volume  That's a long time to wait.

I think that I saw somewhere that you could break in a sub overnight by sending it a signal from a signal generator. This would be great if I could do it. Using a test tone CD would be the same as breaking it in with any other music signal and would take a long time.

most subs dont actually have a break in time.. if they do its usually just a few hours so the surrounds build up flexibility.. most subs are motor tested before they are packed and shipped from the factory..

proper break in procedure for ANY speaker is as follows:

    1. place speaker in appropriate enclosure
    2. make an unclipped pink noise cd
    3. make sure no crossovers or equalizers of any kind are in place
    4. play the pink noise through the speakers at a mild to moderate volume level.. you do not need to drive the speakers to full excursion to break them in.. dont ever do this!
    5. leave speakers playing for appropriate time... anywhere from a few hours to a few days depending on the speakers..

once this is done, your speakers are broken in..

hmmm... when I look at the manufacturer sites and other car audio sites they really stress the break in period. Like I said earlier, the recommended break in period from Polk is nearly 80 hours of play with gradual increases in volume/power. It seems odd that some people haven't even heard of breaking a sub in. I guess it's like the whole engine break in period argument

Its all basically a "covering their asses" tactic.....honestly, think about it. How would a "break in" period really help with a sub?
