the xrs really doesnt have the aftermarket support yet that the scions have right now. as soon as the xrs gets some parts it will be a contender. if toyota brought out a supra in 05 like the rumors say it wont ever be close to what they once were as far as engine and the looks. the mr2 to me is a yuppie moblie not to many young kids drive them around. the celica is nice but for a big man like myself its just not for me. its really up to you what u want at this point. xrs or the tc iam going for the tc.

If I were you, I would take the Corolla XRS. It is great even stock. Toyota has made a very good effort to make a compact sport sedan for the young people. It is in the dealerships now. You should take a test drive.

Toyota is making a comeback in vehicles with sportiness or full fledged sports sedans according to Lexus/Toyota NA president Don Esmond. The next Lexus IS300 is rumored to be a very powerful and with a wide range of engine and model choices, the Toyota Supra is being brought back, which is said to have a V10 engine in it. Furthermore, Toyota is planning to build an affordable rear wheel drive sport compact performance sedan that will be positioned between a Corolla and Camry. Corolla XRS will take the place of Celica GT-S and probably GT-S is going to be discontinued.

Mainly because Scion made public the car's internal data (Don't know what specifically, work with me here damn it). First time Toyota ever did that.

In a way that's good that not too many people drive the MR2 around. That means you won't see many crashed MR2's because of driver error. And the XRS already had an aftermarket even before the car came out. I'm pretty sure a lot of the parts that were made for the GT-S and Matrix XRS are interchangeable with the Corolla XRS.

You can add the Corolla supercharger to the already high output VVTL-i Corolla XRS engine. A lot of the TRD aftermarket mods available for Corolla S can be used to for the XRS as well.

By the way, check out the J D powers and associates studies. The new Corolla was rated the best in initial quality whereas, Scions were near the bottom of the ranks with around 150 problems per 100 vehicles( I am not 100% sure about the exact figure, but it is very high) so, Scions are very unreliable and their resale will not be comparable to Toyotas.

Wow, some personal opinions and impressions!

Hello all, my name is Armond, been around a bit on the boards. I am coming to a conclusion on Toyota in general. They are getting much better is terms of supporting us young(some old too)people with out desire for something sportier!!!

The XRS is a nice start into the upper HP compact car scene. I am also loving the Scion line, mostly the Tc, which I am considering purchasing!

That is part of my dilemma, I am not sure on what choice to make, I am considering what car to purchase next. The for sure thing is that it must come from the Toyota strain, meaning Lexus, Toyota, or Scion! Lexus is too costly for me, so that leaves Toyota and Scion.

The Toyota Corolla XRS is nice, no doubt about it. The one problem I have with it is the slightly oval-like shape. Although not too overpowering in terms of being an odd-looking vehicle, it is still slightly distinct. I have to say this a real contender for the market. With Toyota being known for its reliability, it will definitely be a best seller, and I will not be suprised if it is a Consumer Digest Best Buy!!! 170HP is a nice number to start out with!

The Scion Tc is a very nice looking piece of machinery. Coming with the 2.4 (I think)4-cylinder Camry engine, it has a start at being 160HP with no mods. Pretty nice, and then in August I was told the supercharger from TRD will be available. So basically if I wait to August, I can get the Tc with the S/C and I won't have to pay out of pocket $2000+!!! The Scion is a line of cars created by Toyota, so I have no doubt on its reliability. Witht he S/C it will push close to 200HP from what I am told, although I will have to drive it to see for myself.

What do you think of Toyota's movement in the area of sports compact cars???

    Thanks,
    Armond

p.s. VVTI.net is a great message board/website, the people here are great!!!

personally i think they are getting worse. look at what they make now compared to the supras, mr2s, and all tracs of the late 80's and 90's.

what are you looking for in a new car? if i were you i would get a spyder as that is the only real sports car toyota has left but that isnt exactly a car for everyone.

I am talking young people, people who do not have the money to afford $20,000+ cars! Yeah right, Supra, MR2??? I so wish I could own one of these!!! Sorry if I was not clear. Nothing personal against you man at all! Thanks for telling me how you interpreted what I posted!!

The Spyder is still too costly for me as well, I think I checked it close to 23k??? Something like that, and the Celica is the only "affordable" one. Well with the recent releases there should be some type of stimulation in the minds of the Toyota Company to keep going back to some sporty stuff!!

    Thanks for welcoming me!!!

    Later,
    Armond

mr2's didn't go for that much compared to an xrs..

i think toyota went more into the affordable yet fun, and left the all out performance machine..

yeah toyota has gone way downhill in terms of performance vehicles. Luckily the Supra and MR2 had Incredibly reliable engines.

the tC is the only scion that I think would be worth buying, it's a damn nice looking car and has a decent amount of power, but it also weighs several hundred pounds more than the corolla xrs, and is starting out with less power. The xrs will own it stock-to-stock, esp in auto trim for the tC. I like the looks of the tC better, but think the corolla xrs is a better starting point.

sidenote - thought about it, 160hp out of a 2.4L for the tC? That engine is begging to be let loose, they're obviously choking it, if the 2zz is gettin more power from a 600cc smaller engine.

What are you too smoking. You cant add a supercharger to the xrs. you would blow the freekin engine. No you cant interchange parts from the gts to the corolla s its 2 different engines. The celica isnt going anyplace toyota isnt stopping there 3 most popular car. I the xrs has no aftermarket support at all. show me where u can get cai headers etc etc that will fit the xrs.

I beleive they wil have a TRD CAI for the XRS just like they did for the Matrix XRS, if not the same exact one. After all the Matrix is a Corolla. As far as springs, you can probably buy the teins or eibachs for it as well. You can get the AEM Big Brake kit for it, since it fits the matrix. There are tons of wheels that are lighter and moreperfomance oriented. Short shifter as well, Exhaust from a few different companies like Greddy and Borla. So there, there is some aftermarket support for the XRS.

Every Scion owner I have talked to has yet to come across any problems. That is wierd, and I would think that having Toyota's name at stake, Scion would be begging to make a reliable car.

The tC has caught my eye from day 1, it looks to be a smaller Lexus, and it is coming to the Scion dealership near me in June, I am gonna check it out. Not sure what to do, but I am still leaning towards the tC.

I think as long as they fit and they do what they're built to do, I don't see any problems.

I read up on that and the reason why the Scion ranked low was because some owners weren't satisfied with how the A/C blowed air and i'm guessing J.D. took that as a negative. Nothing having to do with the reliability. I'll try to find the article, it was posted on AutoWeek.

You forgot the Apexi Power FC. Which is letting the GT-S run a higher redline and getting it to 13's, with other mods of course.

You could add a supercharger to it, not a TRD one, but Greddy makes one for the GT-S. There's also a turbo kit for the GT-S which is making 250HP to the wheels.
