I have 137,000 on my 93. Original on just about everything (body, frame, engine, clutch) and I can proudly say she's been from the beginning of I-95 in Mass, all the way to the end of I-95 down here in Miami!!! :D Plus Canada, and a bunch of other trips in between.

I really love the color of the car in your sig. Is that a stock color for the Rolla S, or is it custom?

Did you other 93-97 owners ever have problems with your alternator? I think there was a defect with the ones made from 93-95 (mine failed once I got my system), so they redesigned it on the 96-97's. The redesigned one also fits the 93-95's though.

Also, there's a recall out about a problem with the airbag sensor. Anyone heard about that one?

Alternators have been known to die, period. They wear out, it's a fact of life. The problem ones were Delco units (unsightly and monstrous appendages under the hood), found on North American built cars. My Japan-built '93 has a Denso alternator, and at 137,000 miles, the bearings started making faint noises, so I replaced it before it ever got bad. It's not hard to replace it. All you need is a ratchet with 14 and 12 mm sockets, and a 12mm deep socket. I've done it enough times now that I can replace it in less than 10 minutes. I believe they went to all Denso units on the '95 models. 120,000 miles is the average life for the bearings and brushes of a properly tensioned Denso unit. I would have just replaced the bearings and brushes on mine if they didn't cost as much as buying a rebuilt one.
