Engine problem downshifting

    problem downshifting

    I have a 2000 Corolla and sometimes when i step on the gas all the way, the tranny doesn't want to downshift. Anyone else have this problem?

    umm its all done by the rpms of the engine. u also have to consider ur speed, incline, what accesories you are using, and some other things. just depends

    Corollas should've came with the ECT power button. It would've taken away all those downshifting headaches.

    i hav the same problem... stupid tranny is moody... i found that when the tranny is cold it shifts better than when its warm probably thats y it doesn't want to shift down sometimes... another thing that i found... is if u hav a 3speed auto u could be in the wrong rpm in the wrong time... like around 60km/h and the car is kinda in high rpm for it to go lower gear and too low rpm to get the car to pick up speed... sux to hav auto AND 3 SPEED... what was toyota thinkin???

    Toyota probably thought at the time that a 3 speed was enough and a 4th wasn't necessary.

    LOL, I dont know about that, I've got 50,00 hard miles on my tranny and it shifts fine

    if it does not want to downshift by itself i would not recommend doing it manually.
