Best Gas?

I go out of my way just to fill my car up with Chevron

If I failed to find one in the area and I'm way below the E mark, I would settle for Mobil or Shell

Werd. I'm thinking of buying a couple of those plastic gas containers and filling them up at Costco. The way gas prices look now, I could probably make a fortune on Ebay.

Damn the Bay Area sucks.. Over here, its close to $2.50/g on Premium, which isn't even premium at all! Damn turbo.. 91 gas guzzler. Oh yeah, I use either 76 or Chevron.

shell's the worse. they just had another scandal lately.

shell.... imo.... is good gas all the other places we have are crap.... hucks, caseys, county market, walmart stuff like that.... shell isnt too expensive over here plus I get 10% off of it anyway.

haha. shipping gasoline. which is an exposive is extremely expensive. so i won't be copying you there. but costo is the only place i fill up. it is by far the cheapest in my county.

Basicly out here it's all from the same refinery the different companies add their additive packages as they fill the trucks. I have used 76 the most but when gas prices went sky high I started buying at Sam's Club with no difference other than .10 per gal cheaper.

here in CT the gas that i buy is usually from Citgo. No one seemed to mention them, i guess they must just be here...but anyways they always have the lowest prices and good quality.

QuikTrip has "Guaranteed Gas" now, fallout from the late '80s where they had a run of bad gas that caused quite a stir in Tulsa. In Tulsa, I get QuikTrip, in Stillwater, I get Conoco (no QuikTrip in Stillwater), and elsewhere I get Phillips 66 or Texaco. (Phillips 66 and Conoco merged recently, btw.)

The Federal Trade Commission requires the octane be posted on the pump, using a yellow sticker. In Oklahoma, the Corporation Commission conducts yearly inspections gasoline stations to ensure the accuracy of the pumps, so that they dispense the amount of fuel you are charged for, as well as testing for quality, presence of water or other improper additives, and octane.

Out of that list, we have Shell and Texaco (Caltex over here), but i only Ever use BP Ultimate (98RON). This is the closest i can get to the needed 100RON in the 20v, as all others highest are 95. and also for the fact that BP sells the cleanest and most refined fuels and oils availible.

Gas is gas. It all comes from that Hell Hole Middle East. At over $2.00 a gallon who cares about the brand. A Corolla doesn't need high-octane, high-price gas anyway.

Alot of you guys don't have them, but here in the midwest and kansas city I ONLY use Quick Trip fuel

exactly! thank you! it's all the same. a corolla was made for 87 octane anyways. gas starts off all the same too, they just add stuff to it to boost the octane. unless you have a turbo or supercharger, you won't notice any difference.

i buy gas from Bj's wholesale club because i get a discount. but i'll buy it from dairymart and BP too. my milage is exactly the same from every single place. besides alot of gas stations use the same brand of gas. marathon and bp both use amaco fuels.

there are plenty of variables when it comes to mpg from tank to tank. in the winter i get terrible gas milage. it depends on your driving habits, air temperature, how long you let the car warm up and idle, how long before the oxygen sensor heats up, and the road conditions.

oh yeah, additives don't do anything noticable too. i wish someone would finally prove this, like on mythbusters or something. that would be awesome.

QuikTrip's fuel is also approved as a "TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline".

While it is true that the "modern" Corollas are made for 87 octane fuel, this doesn't change the fact that a quality fuel with the proper *detergent* additives is still a requirement. Don't confuse detergent additives with octane boosters. Detergent additives reduce the amount of deposits left on engine parts; octane boosters can, in many cases, actually INCREASE the amount of deposits left behind (this is true of both higher octane fuel at the pump or fuel which has been treated with an octane booster available at your auto parts store or in the automotive department of your favorite discount chain.)

You are correct that there are many variables affecting your fuel mileage. In the colder months, my fuel mileage seems to go down a bit-- but in the heat of summer my mileage really suffers. The car feels underpowered when the outside temperature is above 90, and I'm also using the air conditioner all the time. My city mileage goes way down, but on the highway I can usually eke out the same mileage as ever. (My highest recorded mileage was 41mpg on a late-October trip to Galveston, TX from Stillwater, OK. I used the air conditioner sparingly, and kept the cruise locked in at 67mph. Recently, I got 24mpg in town, most of the mileage was in heavy traffic, and my air filter was fairly clogged. I could feel the engine thanking me after I replaced the air filter, and already the performance and mileage seems to have gone up.)

I go to cheap gas stations and just buy Redline Fuel Injection Cleaner.

Petrocanada seems to have the best gas in Canada, I guess.

I personally like 76, but lately because of the prices, I use Shell now. btw Costco gas sucks. For some reason, my car gets bad mileage and feels groggy on it. Maybe its a bad additive, feels like its sludging my motor. Running some 76 91 octane cleaned it out and made it all new again though...

i always use gas from SHEll...premium. not taht i'm rich or something just want the best for my car..

The Corolla has been optimized more for 87 so even if you put 91, you're not gonna see that much of a difference. I like using cheveron because for some reason I seem to get the best mileage there. 76 or shell for best performance. In fact I've tested and retested my theory on multiple cars but even if you go to the same gas station (ex. all 76 only) depending on which station you fill up at, sometimes you get different performance. Weird huh. but i've been going at this for 2 years with 3 different cars and my theory tends to be true. oh well anyway, once in a while i'll throw in some 91 octane but for the most part I never saw a difference with the corolla 8th gen.

btw i guess if anyone is interested and I know that there are some san fernando valley ppl here, my fav gas station is Cheveron on Reseda and Sherman Way. usually cheaper than most places and i usually get about 2mpg better than all other stations including other Cheverons.. still boggles my mind why that is.

i live in phx as well 97prismlsi. i used to drive a gas tanker. i can tell you all. i would deliver 87 octane. then the store owner would ask me to fill the 91 octane tank with what was left in my truck so he didnt have to wait for another delivery. so ya there are different grades. just cant be sure of what your getting

i use chevron 91 all the way, base gas , costco gas = shit bogs car and slows it down. 4 me premium is always best ^_^. bad thing is its x pensive especially in hawaii -_-. its liek fuckin 3.05 but its cool get moneys worth. btw how much milage u guys get on ur corolla i hit 300 miles with a full tank to quarter to full.

idk i've been using delta. i used to use hess a lot and tried out exxon or shell and wasn't feeling those. i go with hess or delta. i could be wrong

IGNORING THE DAM SPAM, i like BP and i only use premium fuel. I noticed that when using premium, the fuel consumption lasts so much longer.

Here in NJ there is either Sunoco or BP or Custom Oil...the best gas :wiggle:

Shell for me. I used to buy exxon but since the difference was not to big, id rather go with shell. Their gas tastes better...
