um u can get an autometer or anything aftermarket tach and wire it up.
    thats what i did.

just get the power and ground line hooked up right and put the signal wire that goes to the tach soldered onto one of the wires on ur distributor.

Need a tach... is it possible?

I just bought a 2001 Corolla CE and I love it to death, only thing is it doesn't have a tach. Is the any way to install an aftermarket tach and get an accurate reading? If so, what would I need to do? Thanks for your time.

you can buy a corolla instrument cluster with a tach, it a plug n play so you don't have to worry about an aftermarket and plus its in your dash.

What about mileage descrepencies and all that. I really would rather have the actual mileage known. But there is a connection for the tach behind my dash that I have now?

The mileage actually is kept track off in your ECU. I have the swap done and have no problems.

So you only need a tach right??? I will like to do a switch from my no tach to a tach. What about the connections, any mods needed. I have a 99 corolla VE. I can probably find a tach from a junkyard.

find a cluster with a tach, take off the black plastic, remove the speedometer head from your old cluster, put it inplace of the speedohead with with the tach, replace all the plastic, clip the harnesses back in, youre done.

I'd love it but I can't afford that much for one unfortunately. :'( It sucks shifting on sound alone when it's a car that is still pretty new to me. I'm paranoid I'm gonna break something, especially on those spirited drives.

Thanks Lee. Good to knoe it has a rev limiter, I though the other day I might have left it in 1st a little too long, I was right at 36 before I shifted.

Stick is just flat out more fun to drive.

Toyota says these are the top speeds for each gear:

    1st: 33
    2nd: 55
    3rd: 80
    4th: 112

What I can hit before the rev limiter:

    1st: 35-36
    2nd: ~60
    3rd: 80-85
    4th: limiter, I guess..wherever that is (112?)

You do have a rev limiter, so you won't break anything if you rev too high.

I bought a Sunpro tach for 15 bucks..I forget which wire you connect, but your stock console has the wiring for a tach..I just had to stick the wire in. =)
