As my uncle says, "torque is fun."

Keep in mind what he drives, though..a chipped 1992 Mustang LX 5.0 with headers, Flowmaster exhaust, K&N, 3.55's, traction bars, really wide tires..et cetera. It's fun to drive.. :D

He blew 5th gear's synchros racing a Porsche on the highway..not sure if he's ever ran a timed quarter mile, though.

He said it wouldn't go in, but apparently he made it work..once. Heh..he's probably taken care of that by now, though -- last I saw his car, I think he had 19x,000 on it -- and the engine bay looked new. He takes incredibly good care of his car.

I think that the 2ZZ can top around 325 HP. I don't think that physics allows for much more. It wasn't designed for huge boost. The open deck design makes it tough to take big boost Check out EIP Tuning. They have a sick GTS. I know of an all wheel drive 2ZZ Celica making around 500 maybe, but it's the 3SGTE out of the GT4.

Turbo Mag did a compound boost MR-2 and used the 1MZFE and built the piss out of it. I think it was over 600. Anyways, someone mentioned that building the IS300 engine is the way to go anyways. Maybe because it's a 2JZ? XS Engineering has a stock block 14 PSI IS running like 418 to the wheels.

The best part about the Celica is that it's pretty much gutted already and it handles like a dream, even stock. Figure 325 HP at 2300 lbs give or take for weight reductions is somewhere in the 7's for power to weght ratio, so it still doesn't stand a chance agaist the super cars.

I still swear buy the 2JZ is you want a 6, or the "baby" 2JZ which is the 3SGTE, if you want a for.

3.55 is in reference to the rear end gear, not tranny gear

A 2ZZ will get to 400 HP. There's a Scion tC around 500 HP. The only trick is getting someone with enough money to fund the R&D for all the parts necessary...the owner of that Scion was friggin rich. You can stroke and bore it to about 2.1L, maybe 2.2 if you're lucky (and pushing it), this'll help getting more boost in.

Most of the turbo guys are running 13s at the track, some are managing 12s...the problem with the car is the FWD and so the launch can only be so fast, and after a certain amount of HP your launch will not get any faster, only the top end. I'm not too sure how realistic it is to get the car any faster than 9s.

Now you have me interested about how quick a 2ZZ can actually get. I don't think it could reliably and consistently break 12's in the quarter. The engine is just too damn complicated. I think EIP can afford to do whatever, but the point is that the 2ZZ (and the 1ZZ for that fact), just isn't worth building.

The Blitz Celica GT-S puts out 340 HP (or thereabouts). I heard that the stock XRS/GT-S 6 speed is not very strong and can only take up to 270 - 280 HP and it will blow up if used for higher power.

You can't bore the 2zz much at all, can you? I thought the clearances between pistons were so tight that it was hard to sleeve..

    Scions are 2.4l, no?

turbo4age: He said it wouldn't go into 5th gear, but he 'made it go in'..so whatever that means. :p

The solaras not a bad car at all, but they dont handle well at all in stock form. I have seen some very very nice modded ones over on TN though.
