trunk lid remote open worth it?

so i go to my fav guy today to get a quote for a remote open for my trunk lid (01 corolla).

he quoted me $125 and thats with the parts and labor plus being able to program it with my remote keyless entry that i have now since i have the trunk lid button that i dont use.

what do you guys think? main reason i wanted this is because the lock on the trunk is kind of iffy. i have to jimmy my car keys to get it open and sometimes it can be a pain in the ass and take longer than usual. sometimes it is really inconvenient for me like when i am carrying a lot of clothes (always doing this since im a college kid driving to/from home/school) and i cant just lay the clothes on the ground.

furthermore, i mean its a grocery getter car...might as well have a popping trunk right?

well, i had a fob popping trunk popper for a while and my opinion is that it is only worth it but you won't be satisifed with it. The parts are only $25 from eBay and there is a DIY on 9thgencorolla.com on how to install one. The reason I think you won't be happy with it is because for the trunk to pop, you have to get close hold down the AUX button on your fob for like 3 sec for it to work. Basically if you had reached into your pocket for your fob AND stand there holding down the button for 3 or more seconds; you might as well use your key and unlocked your trunk. I am happier with my OEM trunk release because I can just bang my fist into my pocket to unlock the car and then set whatever is in my hand on the driver's seat to reach down for the trunk release.

Its one of those solenoid trunk popping kits on eBay. I know my Viper keyless entry requires pressing the AUX button for 3 sec to trigger it. Maybe you can change the time or other vendors have different times.

nah, all DEI alarms AUX channels has the 3 second lag. But if you have a long range or paging type you could pop the trunk long before you are right next to the car.

i finally did it.
i can pop the trunk long from as far as the remote can reach....i've popped the trunk from a long distance. i personally don't mind the 3 second lag, in fact, i like it. i wouldn't want to accidentally pop the trunk..

could you post a pic of the trunk popper solenoid? I want to see where other installs put it.

well the keyhole was messed up to begin with which motivated me to get this. im sure it still works tho cus all it does is pull that switch from the inside (which was removed).

oh right, i remember.

I'm pretty sure they took out the rod that attaches between the key cylinder and latch itself. But it looks like a clean install from here.
