is TRD exhaust legal in MD?

this is mainly for the people who live in Maryland, but anybody who actually knows the answer is more than welcome to give their input...

okay, so the other day i got pulled over FOR THE 2ND TIME for my exhaust being too loud and i ended up getting "detained" for a while because of a suspended license...so when i finally got home i told my parents and now they're really pressuring me to get rid of my current exhaust. i refuse to go back to stock so i was thinking of getting the TRD muffler....the thing is my current system is an e-bay muffler welded on with a little bit of custom piping, which means i no longer have the stock flanges. so i've got 3 questions for you....

    1. if i were to weld the TRD muffler on to my current setup, would it still be legal in MD?

    2. if i were to replace my stock piping with custom piping (2 1/4" or something like that) and have the muffler with that, would it still be legal in MD?

    3. if i were to replace my stock piping with custom piping, ad a flange at the end and then bold the TRD muffler to it, would that be legal in MD?

i really wanna do either 2 or 3, but i don't wanna spend $330+ on a new muffler if it isn't even legal in my state

yes, it's legal. Vamp got pulled over for his, and was able to prove that it's a dealer option...and had his charges dropped. he now keeps a paper signed in his car stating that it's legal exhaust.

depends, if vamps paper was signed by the judge or some1 like that im guessing they actually inspected his exhaust thoroughly, if its just a paper that comes in the box when you buy it, im assuming cops check the tip to see if it says "trd" so carrying this paper might merrit them leaving you alone if the latter is how it happens

he carries the one from the dealership...THAT is the legal document he needs. he also carries a brochure for TRD that shows the item listed.

it's not that mine is annoying or anything...it's just that cops around here look for any excuse to pull you over when they're bored or having a slow week. and i don't feel like getting pulled over for some bullsh*t

Actually, I have my TRD welded onto a custom cat-back. I have a signed work order and a note from the state inspector at Toyota stating it was legal. I brought those along with a TRD catalog and showed it to the judge, who ruled that my exhaust was legal. I keep the catalog, work order, notice, and court papers in my trunk.

I got pulled over cause there was a cop on the highway as I was coming off the exit and I had just polished my exhaust.

i actually was barely moving...we were in traffic and as soon as he saw me he got behind me...i just kinda rolled down the hill so my exhaust wouldn't make any noise but when we got to the bottom i had to press the gas a bit so i wouldn't go too slow and as soon as i did he put his lights on...they do it all the time

maybe, but i think my windows were too dark for him to actually tell that i'm black

...hey vamp...did you have you custom cat-back done at toyota or did you just take it to them for the inspection? and did the inspection cost anything?

I just took it to them for inspection, which was free. The state inspector found it ridiculous that I had gotten the work order int he first place.

Seriously, if you had a normal looking muffler and stock looking tail lights.... They wouldn't notice you so much. Cops in MD look for rocket launcher mufflers and aftermarket tailights. (and other stuff like stickers and neon lights. dark tint etc) I'll be fabing my full 3" exhaust from the turbo back with magnaflow cat and flowmaster 40 series muffler some time in the next 2 weeks. Let's see how much I get pulled over.
