    Offical USA 2009 Corolla Revealed!

[img2=right]http://trdforums.com/assets/newsimages/09rolla.jpg[/img2]"Finally got official shots from Toyota of the 2009 Corolla added to the gallery. While we're waiting for live shots of the car to arrive, we'll tell you a little bit about Toyota's new small car. The 2009 Corolla will come in five trims: Standard, LE, XLE, the "sporty" S and even "sportier" XRS. The car is about the same size as the last model, but the A- and C-pillars have been pushed out to give the greenhouse a more rakish look. Meanwhile, S and XRS models get a body kit that includes a chin spoiler, fog lamps, rocker moldings, spoilers and even an underbody engine cover to improve airflow beneath the car. Engines include the base 1.8L four-cylinder with dual-VVT-i producing 132 HP and 162 ft-lbs. of twist. The XRS alone gets a 2.4L producing 154 HP and 162 ft-lbs. of torque. Cars like the Honda Civic Si sedan shouldn't worry. S models also get 16-inch wheels that are unfortunately capped with wheel covers, while the XRS sports 17-inchers that are pure alloy.
There's no word on pricing yet, but the 2009 Toyota Corolla will be available in dealerships this February. Check out Toyota's full press release after the jump for more details."

Saw the 09 Toyota Corolla and Matrix in person today, they're still bad looking but I like them better than the 03-08 models. The Lexus IS-F however was another story, the front fender arches are more subtile and the quard exhaust tips didn't look as weird as it did in pictures. Thumbs up for the IS-F

i am liking the matrix a lot better. the 2.4l engine seems like it will be a better staring point for power compared to the 2zz.

They should offer the 1.8 and the 2.4 in every model of Corolla, give people the option of better fuel economy or more power without having to overspend on the XRS... i'm sure the 2.4 isn't much more expensive than the 1.8... and why can't they give us the 3.5 V6... its shoehorned into the same basic vehicle on the same platform elsewhere in the world... the 3.5 V6 in the Corolla XRS, priced about the same as the Civic Si... that would generate a ton of excitement for Toyota and attract alot more younger buyers im sure... oh well, wishful thinking...

Looks like a Camry and Yaris made a kid.

Eh, it's ok. Once again, Toyota uses the 2.4L. [sarcasm]Woo-hoo.[/sarcasm]

I'm not surprised that they shoved it into another car though. Now it's Camry/Solara/tC/xB/Corolla on my count. I won't be buying one that's for damn sure.

i wish they gave the XRS model more horepower i realize that the regular models are not going to be that well powered because most corolla owners dont give a shit about the power they have however the fact that the XRS only has 154hp dosent compare well to its competitors. I thought they were gonna put the XRS at a level around 180 to 200 to compete with the colbalt ss and others.

    It's a Corolla3!

fusion of a rolla and Mazda3

which isn't bad, but it isn't nearly as exciting.

That's pretty much 90% of the front-end design. The grill, however, reminds me of the Camry. The taillights and rear-end remind me of the IS (esp. the red reflectors/lights on the lower end of the bumper). Kind of a mish-mash of different Toyota designs. It's BLEH at best.
All I'll say right now is:
    TOYOTA =[IMG]

154hp/162tq? well at least it's etter balanced, but the 05-06 xrs got 170hp/127tq...I think mine could beat it...especially if it does 0-60 in 8.1 secs. they should just let that dream die and concentrate on that new 2dr rwd they have coming next year!

Toyota will never make another full sports car. Their money isn't in that market.

True that, at this years SEMA the Toyota/TRD exibit is located in the "Trucks, SUV and Off Road" section with the majority of their displays being Tacomas, Tundras, FJ Cruiser, etc. There were one 5-axis built Yaris in the corner but thats about it. The Scions however were located in the "Racing and Performance section" (no suprise). Toyota is dead for sport compacts in the US market.

Since I use my Corolla for gas savings, the only thing I'm excited about is the new 1.8 engine that has a couple MPG better than the last gen and 6 more horses plus 6 more pounds of torque. It's only worth it to swap into my 8th gen if the transmissions mate up though when my engine dies.

Since the 2ZR-FE is a new motor, you won't be able to get one for cheap if at all. You'll have to wait until the new Corolla has been on the road long enough to have gotten into accidents. The gas mileage of the 1ZZ-FE and the 2ZR-FE shouldn't differ that much. It all depends on driving style.

To be honest, I'm not sure what Toyota's direct opinion on the "sports" market is. I'm not sure if they honestly consider the scion's their entry into the sport market, of if they are just saying... "Look, this is our cute, lowered with wheels car. Don't look for a Supra. It would cost too much build, we'd charge you too much and we're making billions of dollars on our superb truck and SUV market. Have fun in the dirt."
