That's bull. If you can prove that your decibels are under the legal limit you can fight it. As for the others, if you can prove that you can pass smog than you can fight that too. Its ridiculous since Harley's and other factory cars are way louder. Those actually give me a headache.

    >>>That's what I thought of also, I have the CAI w/ the sensor still attached to it so w/ the headers & I passed the smog w/c was sent to the DMV, I still have the cert. that I passed it..
Anyway, like I said I'll have my appt. this 25June @ the State Referee to check on my decibel levels w/c must be under 95db.
    Here's the Magnaflow I have:
    5" x 8in Oval Street Series Double Wall, Straight Cut2.25in Inlet, 4" Diam. Tip4" Tip Length14in
Muffler Body LengthPolished Finish w/Tips Universal

You said the same thing what my co-workers said about the Harleys & those other noisy cars.
Now, I'm kinda stress-out thinking about it  :( ...
Btw, is Asian Rick still here in this forum?

Don't stress about it too much. If you can argue a valid point by comparing to the stock noise levels of those noisy ones then you will win. Even more so if you are under 95 decibels.

I think I remeber they have to do a smog check before they do the dB test. I don't think you'll pass the smog check since the CAI and hear is not CARB approved. That's why i'm trying to get a injen carb sticker for my intake. My buddy got pulled over by corona by a sheriff once, had to go through all that state ref shit.

I've passed it twice already + with my exhaust setup. And I'm in California where the smog laws are more strict.

depending on the smog guy it wouldn't pass visual because it dosen't have a CARB EO#. Everything after the cat converter the smog guys wouldn't care about.

Not every state. Some state does safety inspections. Other dosen't do inspections or emissions. California has the toughest emissions standards in the US. Our Smog Checks consist of us forking over $60 every two yrs for some jackass to look under our hood and under our cars to make sure nothing is modified and if it is, it must have a CARB (California Air Resource Board) EO#. Then they do a sniffer test on a dyno to test emissions at idle, 15mph and 25mph. If we do not pass the test then we don't get to register our cars.

I just used this to contest my ticket a got a couple months ago. I had to signup for a membership but I'll save you the hassle of joining. Here's the site that gives you templates to fill out when contesting by written declaration.

This is the main site explaining why it is better to fight your ticket by written declaration.

No problem man. I swear cops have nothing better to do than hand out tickets to those who don't matter that much and never catch the worst offenders.

I passed the noise test w/ a 93db but have to return because of my headers have 2b replace w/ a stock one. It was rated @ 93db on 4320rpm & it was test out in the parking lot. They put a sticker on the back on the ticket. I was also told to have it tuned up, not to use any other brand plugs but NGK, & not 2use ARCO gas for a smog test theyll be doing on it.
Ill keep y'all updated for more info. Thanx for ur time:) .

Your header is right out in front. If they don't see, they don't have a stink about it. My header is in the back since the 1ZZFE is sitting backwards in the bay.

you pass the smog, but the parts are carb legal. i ran into this a few times while i lived in so cal, but luckily i had low friends in high places. exhaust is a noise test, but the rest you are SOL. the cops don't have anything better to do except enforce what the law states that you and i try to get around it. there is no one else to be mad at expcet yourself.

This is why its a bad idea to dress up the engine bay. You want it to look as stock as possible even though its not.
