    Check Engine Light

Hey guys the check engine light on my 99 corolla flashed for a few minutes yesterday and went away after a couple of minutes while I was driving. It seems to have happened when I accelerating and all of a sudden my car felt like I was revving the engine while shifted to neutral. After a few minutes it went back to normal and like a said the engine light disappeared. Should I be concerned?

have it checked immediately, and have it hooked up to a computer and check the history readings on the car. You may have problems with the tranny from what it sounds like.

Okay I went to AutoZone today and according to the reading, Cylinder 2 misfired. The car drove normally today and no engine light. What can cause a cylinder to misfire?

When was the last time your got the plugs changed? Get the plugs pulled and read them - see if anyone of them looks significantly different than the others (easiest to do them one at a time). Make sure to check plug gaps - even off a little bit can make them misfire. Bad gas can also make for misfires, a clogged up air filter is another.

I opened the spark plug compartment and found that 3 out of 4 holes have a little bit of water in it. I think when I washed the engine some water sipped into the hole. Unfortunately the car started fine for a few days after that so there were no indication that water got in it until I checked it today. I dried it and sprayed it with some kind of spray that dries wet ignition systems. Tomorrow I will change the oil just to be safe then see if she acts up again. I might also replace the spark plugs although they are just less than 2 yrs old. Right now engine light is stayed on. If I reset it, will that light go out? Anybody know how to reset it? I heared you can push down on the odo switch and while pushed insert the key and switch it to on position. Is this right?

Just pull the negative battery calbe for a little bit to clear the codes, if you don't have a scanner handy. Double check that the water didn't cause corrosion on the plug end - that would make for the misfire you have. If in doubt, cheaper to just plain replace the plug wires and plugs - always a good idea to blow out the plug wells with compressed air anyways to prevent debris from dropping in.
