If I am correct, both my front and rear are MacPherson Struts because they look similar to what e_andree posted below.

    Am I correct?

yeah, youre correct on the strut setup. looks pretty clean considering the age. the only nasty thing i see is all the undercoating put on to prevent rust, but id rather have a giant black booger under my car than rust!!

there is some visible brake fluid, grease, and oil... but like you said "19 YEARS OLD" haha... my 22 year old fender wells look pretty similar, accept for the odd buildup of rubber in the rear wheel wells :superconf

your car sits pretty high so you could go to a quarter wash and blast most of the loose stuff and grease out of there... and if youre really anal and have a few spare bucks you could pull the wheels off and spray down the whole shebang. ive done both. and with the way you detail your car, you should feel dirty to be hiding that haha.

my 82' 320i has got CV joints for the rear axle, hehe same with struts up front and rear.

ah so im not the only anal one about removing the wheels every time i was my car and clean under there even though its a pain in the ass.

Would you say you have a Cadillac ride(you feel the bump a mile down the road) or a water bed suspension. LOL

actually its not that bad... the spring rate isnt bad in small bumps but in dips and big humps on the freeway you will notice it needs replacing... the other problem it has is on bumps instead of just feeling the bump, you hear suspension noise similar to 2 hammers pounding each other.
