cashing checks from the gvt

cashing checks from the gvt

i got this check back from my school that i was going to deposit into my acct, but on the upper right it says payable through any bank one.

can i go to wells and deposit this into my wells fargo acct?

EDIT: it says state of colorado on the top and it says WARRANT on the treasurer of the state of colorado

signed by the treasurer and stuff

If the check is made out to you, you can deposit it into your checking account at any bank. Every bank policy is different. Sometimes there will be a hold on the check in others there won't.

But as long as its in your name, you do deposit it wherever you want.

Here's a rundown on checks. This is fo any check, not just gov't. cheese.

1. You can cash them at your bank provided you have enough funds in your account to cover the check's face value(the varies by bank, but it's fairly standard here)

2. You can go to the bank it is drawn on and cash it with or without an account.

3. You can deposit it into your own bank account, but your bank may hold it to verify funds in the drawn account for a couple days before releasing it. They usually will make $100 of it available until the check clears.
