Girls booted from prom due to dress

    http://www.nbc4.com/education/12153828/detail.html

Couple of girls were denied entry to their prom because a teacher felt their dresses were to revealing. In some cases, too much clevage. The pics of some of the dresses seemed fine to me. Nothing to cause a fuss about. I've seen lots of girls wear dresses like that to prom/weddings/etc. Some of the girls looked big chested in which "too much clevage" shows but thats cause of how the girl is built.

First schools restict certain types of dancing. Now its a dress code. Do you think they should have dress codes at proms? If so, towards who and what can't be worn? What if I guy shows up in a tux and sneakers, or jeans and a tshirt..etc.

I can understand some dresses but some of those look fine.

A couple of the pics I saw looked like strapless bridesmaid's dresses. Everything was covered that I could tell. I think that if they wanted to enforce a dress code they should have handed the rules out when the kids got their tickets or whatever their school does to gauge a headcount of folks who are attending. If they had done that, maybe this wouldn't have ended up as a national news story.

This is also the Bible belt. All it takes is one self-righteous administrator to decide that bare shoulders or strappy shoes is inappropriate and you end up with a situation like this.

they could have had a set of rules laid out for students before the dance, and these girls could have broken those rules. i know my school had very strict rules regarding what was permitted and what wasn't, and we had a few girls turned away at the door.

we never made the news, though...i guess because our girls knew they were breaking rules, and opted not to make fools of themselves.

    lol @ oreo

    @ the topic:
the students should know better. *remembers prom night* i dont think we had that problem but there were a handfull of girls who had alot of flesh showing... i think what they could have done is just get scarfs or jackets to cover up and still have fun.

Some were allowed back in after altering their dresses. But the problem is, half those dresses were fine. Nothing was wrong with them. Now if you tell me that a girl was rejected at the door cause her dress was way to revealing...very tight, boobs poppin out, designs on the side where the cutouts show the hips and you can tell the girl isn't wearing underwear, then yes..I can see them rejecting that. But not for the things that some of those girls were wearing. If they're going to be that strict, then they should have just gone in a sweater and jeans..lol.

like i said, the school might have had a rule regarding their dresses...and they might have broken it. that article didn't provide information about it, but it's possible the news station didn't choose to mention it (or didn't know it existed).

not all schools are ruled the same.

go to the article, there's a link right in the middle of it.

All they said was that they have a dress code and they've had it for years. Question is, were the students told about it and what exactly is their dress code. thats what they don't mention.

my guess, to be quite honest, is that it has to do with straps. most of those girls had strapless/single strap/oddly designed dresses that lend toward increased cleavage. i know my school said that you could either have a very high neck with no straps, or TWO thick straps - no strapless, single strap, or spaghetti strap dresses were permitted.

This happened about an hour from my home town. Apparently, the big deal about is was that one girl brought her dress to the school office and asked if it was appropriate, but when she showed up to the prom in it, she was turned away. Apparently, the school is siding with the teacher that made them go home.

EDIT: Just looked at the pics for myself. That teacher must either be a hell of a prude (read: wears turtlenecks 24/7) or must be flat as a pancake. I think she's just jealous of the well-endowed girl. :shrugs:

All this garbage just makes me glad I'm in college.

eh the public school system is terribad anyway. the fired my mom for being too nurturing a teacher, but when you think about it you dont want to learn from a teacher who yells about everything and has dead rats in her ass, thats probably what kind of teacher that lady was

i dunno, but they removed her contract because she was too nurturing of a teacher, because she doesnt give out detentions that often. like say a student is talkting too much and they give them detention...my mom would just give them timeout or something...i dunno she filed a grievance with the teachers union
