Should I swap to a manual tranny?

I got a quote from Dr Tweak for my 8th gen and it's less expensive than MWR's and I don't really trust local shops to do it. I also have to figure in the tow expenses from NYC to Savannah, Georgia...
A few reasons why I want to switch to manual:
- I've always wanted to drive stick
- Practice for when I get a more powerful manual car
- I think my transmission is going out anyway

manuals can be tough in cities and traffic, they just get annoying... but i think you should switch out for sure, it is great practice and if anything you can rev your engine up at some hot babe or something...and you can burn out..

well right now, i'm around binghamton where there aren't as much cars as nyc. so that place would be a pretty good place to practice.. but uh... lol yeah...i dont really think about revving my engine up at some hot babe in my corolla haha.. burn out? does that even work with FWD if you put your ebrakes up?

back when my ebrake worked i could burn out for a few seconds..used to get some smoke from the tires too, but my ebrake is shot and doesnt lock up only holds me on hills when im already stopped

The manual is so much better. My 98 is manual, and my fiancee's 01 prizm is auto. My manual drives so much better, and it's easier to get it going quicker. Just more fun anyway.

easiest way to burn out in an auto is....... reverse real fast dont let go of the gas and put it drive!!!

If you like to drive you wont regret it. I took a few days out of my summer vacation and did the swap with a friend of mines. It was a great learning experience and net cost was less than a grand.

hmm well...i don't really have any mechanic friends (lost contact since i joined the navy and they were all from high school). maybe i should shop around and see if any local shops would do it....

I love my manual, and its not as bad in traffic as people say thats in my opion. SO I say go for it man its a lot more fun to drive.

in traffic its not soo bad if you have a light clutch/flywheel combo, as i remember the stock clutch is a hefty bitch.

Yea it works, there are a couple of skid marks outside my complex from me doing burnouts.

i found someone local! no more plans of going down south over 1000 miles (probably) to Dr Tweak.
He's charging 300$ labor. i'm guessing this is good. Can someone please give me the check off list for the manual swap? so i can start getting the parts together.

Checklist...
Pedals
manual tranny ECU
the tranny..
shifter/shifter boot
(should i get the fidanza flywheel while im at it??)

what other upgrade can i do to the tranny?

Stage 1 clutch, as far as upgrades go.
Don't forget master and slave cylinders.
