if one works in or owns a shop that builds performance vehicles, wouldn't that warrant purchasing a dyno?

Most people who are in NY that want me to work on their cars ship them down to me. It's pretty common actually... I have an '00 Corolla coming down next week for a custom turbo system :D

you'd be flooded if you were here though. i guess its comparable to that old saying.. for every so many people who complain about something, only x amount of people write a letter of complaint. so here it'd be like for every person who sends their car to you, there's much more who wanted work done..

are there any other shops or dynos where youre located?
if not you just acquired quite the strangle hold with the meat head muscle car guys and the ricers... they love to dyno ANYTHING.

how high will your software dyno to?

Yeah, there's a dyno right next-door to us... but, it's a Dyno Dynamics and a lot of people don't like them.

This will measure up to 1200hp.

I never even heard of dyno dynamics.. but i like dynojet because they usually give higher power readouts than mustangs and dynapacks.

There's a shop near my house that uses a Dyno Dynamics, and it does give slightly lower readouts, but I've never heard of anyone complaining about it.

The dyno dynamics is a load-holding dyno, which is wonderful for tuning, but it's difficult to get any kind of consistancy between dynos. Dynojets on the other hand tend to be very consistant.

Let's say for example that you and I start arguing about who can make more power with our AE86. You go and run your car on a dynojet, and I go run my car on a dyno dynamics, post up the results, you're going to say "Hey, YOU have to run your car on a dynojet, otherwise it doesn't count!".

Well, maybe you wouldn't, but this is a conversation that happens hundreds of times on various internet forums, thus the reason people like the dynojet.

    in regard to that...

when i ran my turbo car on a mustang dyno they input my vehicle weight a little high and when i got into boost you could tell the load was far greater then on the street. at ~6psi (with the wastegate capped because i had a severe boost leak at the coupler coming off the housing. i know, dumb idea) i made 150rwhp and 156rwtq. the dyno operator and a couple of the tuners that were there told me i should have gone to any of the other local dynojets because i would have laid down around 175rwhp.

    is that argument legit?

That's a good example... however I'd be suprised to see a 4AGE put down more than 150whp on 6 psi... that's actually pretty good.

if i could find the sheet ill post up a scan. my tps was also acting up so my wideband, and the dynos, showed afrs from the 10s to 11s the whole time... with some tuning and the turbo no spinning WAY out of its efficiency range i think i could have made more. plus the guy didnt even have a fan blowing for my intercooler.

edit: this was one of the earlier pulls, i cant find the other one with slightly higher numbers but we will just call it from this graph. i made a max of 6.8psi and then it tapered down a couple... 154tq and 147hp. well you can see. i just figure i could post this in a thread about a dyno...

and here is a pass at the strip the next night, nothing was changed. im in the pontiac lane

are these respectable numbers for a stock ecu, clicked maf (gze injectors), no fmu, t3, ~100k mile stock bluetop?

That's real good actually. I'm quite impressed with how stable the A/F stayed as you got into boost... you definetely have more power to be gained by leaning out the mixture above 4600 rpm, and running a little more boost. I'm sure that boost leak isn't helping the fact that the turbo doesn't reach max boost until 4200rpm. What's the wastegate set at?

the wastegate is set at 7psi, but i had the actuator capped with a vacuum cap to even make that boost. running off the gate only made about 2psi. its a t3 .48/.60 (z32 compressor side).

i fixed the boost leak and got it running right it would make full boost before 3500 and if i ran higher it would just make full boost quicker (as quick as ~12psi on my autometer gauge at 3200rpm) but never made it back to the dyno before i blew the engine... i had about 5 bus lengths on that civic and i just had to shift into 5th where the ecu couldnt keep up, ~15to1 afrs at around 15psi oops. i swapped in a 7rib but it never ran right, i think the pump went bad. so im leaning towards a pump gas ~400hp 1jz setup and ill be more than done with powertrain mods then. want to help prototype some parts on that?

That's actually the same engine I would run in an AE86 if I were to build one. What parts do you need made?
