thats kind of a dumb statement in my honest opinion.
    why encourage a qouta?
they are a large company and have been doing what works for years now... all they are doing now is catering more to a specific market so they can reap the financial benifits. i highly doubt they are doing this because they feel obligated that they "should"

making a fuss about a "black princess" is almost as rediculous as putting goofy looking 30" wheels on a goofy looking boat of a car.

financial gain or not. they have white characters and they had egyption/arabic characters so why not black? obviously their non-white charcters weren't made because they felt "obligated" to make them. They made them for profit, imo. I still feel they should of made a black character a while ago, profit or not.

Now...do I agree that they're basing it in a New Orleans setting? ehhhh. I can't say I do or don't.

kids. teach them about different races. why wait til they get older. let them learn now. you see it and they see it as financial gains, but to others, its a teaching tool. well I see it like that as well. Hell, if they would create an asian character, then so be it! Even better! I mean throw all races in there! The way I interpret your post is as saying this is all done to satisfy the blacks. I could be wrong..but I see it as satisfying everyone.

and how will it teach kids anything?

they dont know shit about europeans but 90% of disneys characters and stories are based in different european eras...

they think being a mermaid is cool

they think if you wish hard enough you can go from rags to riches

they think animals, and toys, can talk

    blah blah blah

i dont think there has ever been a race issue because kids of all races watch disney films. i dont think this is a good or a bad idea, just a savvy one at most. its not about race to me as it is typically for you, you seem to be the only person posting racially charged topics lately... not to mention you skipped over my question about your seeming support of a racial cartoon quota, what the deal?

Bleh....nate brings up some good points.

Why the feel for the need for this to have happened "a long time ago"

They have toys like that so why not cartoons? Toys came out which black and white dolls a long time ago. Why not start making cartoons like that? I mean not just black and white, but something for everyone to enjoy. Why not support them if they make a cartoon for every race out there?

And in teaching kids, I don't mean they'll sit there and learn their ABC's from the movie or learn about different eras. Its more of a question/answer type teaching. There are alot of kids out there that ask questions. That would be a good time to teach them about things. "why is he wearing that?" "Why are they all different colors?" "Why do they speak differently" I mean questions like this can be answered so the child knows that everyone is different. Or even teach them about things like that (ie: how everyone looks different, speaks different, etc). To me cartoons are a start to teach kids about things.

Oh and just an FYI..I post things that I see on the news. It just happens to be that this whole race thing is the only thing people really get into.

All in all, I support what they're doing. I see it more than a financial gain. And like I said, if toys are being made in different colors and what not, then cartoons should have been the same a while ago. Thats why i said, it should have happened a long time ago.

I agree with Nathan...not because he's my husband, but because he brings up valid points and questions.

I think that the fact they're basing it in New Orleans is hilarious. Honestly, I mean did they're govenor have a say in this? Becuase you know he's such a racially motivated person.

Personally, I think that the children's parents are responsible for teaching their children about different races/cultures. Of course they're going to learn about it in school...but I can tell you right now, being raised in my house as a kid with grandparents and a father like mine...understanding the black race was hard as my father's side of the family is racist. All I was brought up to know about them is how ignorant they are and that they are the ones who are the criminals and whatnot. Now I know that isn't true anymore...although it still is in a way as well.

    I still wanna be a mermaid...:p

I can't disagree with him either ... he's right. I mean there are green turtles, mexican dolls, black dolls, asian dolls, and white dolls. When I was a kid there was this black girl who used to push a white doll around in her little doll stroller. I don't think kids are really that in tune with race yet...she was so happy taking care of her little "baby"...no matter what color she is.

^that last statement is it in a nutshell. Little kids don't make a big deal about race and difference. When they're small, under about 6-7 I'd say, anything picked up about race is likely from the home environment. Beyond that and the kids are beginning to become aware of their surroundings beyond the home environment and start to form their own opinions.

Do I think they should have made a black princess movie earlier? Sure why not. Little kids really don't care what color she is so long as the film is new and entertaining to them.

Do I think this one will have Sharpton/Jackson/ Rainbow P.U.S.H. coalition flapping their pieholes about it's "racist" N.O. setting,....well, do bears shat in the woods? lol.

It's going to, I'm pretty sure. Any press is good press for those guys. Their photos should appear next to "Attention Whore" in Webster's Dictionary. Even though others will likely find this film as a sort of progress move socially, I'm sure those talking heads will find something wrong with it to get their faces on the evening news.

This woman is severely demented. When I was 4-12 and watched Disney movies ... not once did I think I was a princess. I lived in Wisconsin...in an apartment...with my parents...a cat...a hamster...and I knew I wasn't destined to become a princess. I knew the difference between cartoons and reality. And I am not quite sure why parents can't teach their kids how to differeniate between the two? My parents did ... my friends paraents did...I don't understand what has happened with this generation. It's quite disturbing.

I think that she is right when it comes to the promotion of it. I think that if Disney wanted positive attention and not a bias opinion by either whites/asians/blacks that they should have just ran with it like other Disney movies. But then again, they have the money and we don't, they can do whatever they want.

Get off your high horse about the Frog Princess crap...maybe if your "people" would have more self respect and not blame others for their poverty and misfortunes like it is so blatnly described to everyone on TV and in magazines, then she would have had a better "Princess Identity"...and that statement I made is not racist...it's the truth. And another thing ... isn't anything good enough for you? If you don't like it ... make it your god damned self. Seriously ... ugh!!!

... Randy Newman is an icon ... he has a great voice and a great persona. I am pretty sure that he is going to do a great job. If Disney felt that he wasn't good enough ... that they needed just that bit more of diversity then they would have gotten your so-called soulful singer. Again, don't like it, shut up or make it yourself. Pretty sure Disney has yet to make a terrible movie .... in all aspects ... so shut up!

I know these people were interviewed by someone else and aren't saying it in the forums...but still I had to state my opinion. What a fucked up country we live in where nothing is good enough, smart enough, fast enough...everyone needs to calm down, take a few deep breaths, and thank whoever it is they believe in that they're alive to make a differnece...not bitch, moan, and complain about a fucking Black Princess who happens to kick it with frogs. By the way ... would you like her name to be Shaquesha too?

AB--SO--LUTE--LY....however, it wasn't a cartoon ... so Disney had to step up to the plate and create one. I still find it amusing that she's a frog princess. I mean .. i know that's mean ... but it's the truth.
