    Help! On Handbrakes....

OK! My car is officially 5yrs old since its manufactured...

Now my E-Brake sucks, I have to pull it really hard just to feel it sticking to the drums but the rear brake, "if" I use the pedal seems fine...

I want to know what I should do to make the E-BRAKE react better than the first time I got it? like 4-8 clicks to make it bite!

    I'll Appreciate the HELP! thanks....

A-Check if you still have brakes back there
    B-Tighten up E-brake cable
    C-adjust shoe setting

you can get a rear brake kit(you'll probably need the full kit) from any car parts store...they're not all that expensive.

If the springs for the brake shoes are not included, it would be a good idea to change those at this time too...

Yes, you can. I believe you need 5th gen Celica parts but I cant really remember. Search for previous threads. Dr. Tweak has worked on them and made conversion kits for us.

you don't need to buy rear brake kit.....I use C-clamp, plier and one flat head screw driver just to change my rear brake.

okay, you just listed the tools...what lilbit01 was talking about with rear brake kit is everything you need to change the brakes (i.e. brake shoes, springs)

OK! I adjusted my E-Brake, I tightened the nut under the center armrest and now it bites after 5-7 clicks..;)

But, I'm wondering if I change my rear brakes next week... will my E-brake and brakes be too tight and I wont be able to move the car even when the E-Brake is released down???

    I drive a 2003 Corolla S M/T BTW...

maybe you should mess with the e-brake adjustment after you change your brakes....or at least check them to make sure you still have some left back there...

yeah change them first then adjust them, otherwise you will have to go through the hassle of havng to re-adjust them again Also check the inner piston seals when you change the brake shoes, replace any messed up, bent, broken and leaking parts.
