Crazy Engine Swaps I'd Like To Do...

Well guys, I've been doing engine swaps for a long time now, and with a lot more fabrication experience and equipment, there's a couple new projects that I'd really like to do. I have a feeling that there are some people out there who are interested in having something different and maybe a little crazy done to their Corollas. Here's a few projects I have in mind.

    1. 3SGTE (Celica GT-4 2.0 liter turbo, 255hp) swap and ALL WHEEL DRIVE conversion. I estimate the cost of this conversion, including everything, turn-key and ready to go out the door, at $12,000.

    2. 1UZFE (Lexus LS400 4.0 V8 engine, 265 to 300hp). I would like to install this into a Corolla and KEEP IT front-wheel drive. Turn-key and ready to roll, I estimate this one at $9000.

Who's up for one of these, or another crazy project?

Forget the 1UZFE, I say you just go with a 2JZ or an RB swap into a Corolla.

I bet THAT would get a non-AE86 Corolla on the cover of Sport Compact Car!

also you could try a 2jz swap to corolla. you would have to modify the front end of the chassis, but it is doable.

That 2jzgte idea would be insane hehehe. Yo Doc, are these swaps directed to a certain generation or just any for the rollas?

Yeah, that's going to be tough as the 1uz, to my knowledge, has never been in a FWD config. I don't think that it'd fit transverse in a fwd Corolla anyway...at least, not without a fair bit of fabrication. Have to figure out what transmission would be mated to it as well. Might be able to mate something from Cadillac or Lincoln with some machine work and lots of $$$ though. They've both got FWD V8 vehicles.

A 2jz would be great RWD Corolla. Maybe a V6 from the 2007 Camry.

I've actually wanted to do a Camry V6 swap for a while. I just don't even know where to start (besides the obvious first two parts: Camry V6 and a Corolla).

well the 1st gen mr2 is the car to look at when you want to do crazy swaps in place of any A series engined car.

with your knowledge of swaps you have to have already developed a game plan in regard to your Xuz-fe fwd swap idea... care to share your supposed solutions to space constraints (front to rear) and the fwd transmission you might use? also how would you work out the engine mounts? the engines mount vastly different.

how about an Xjz engine into an ae86... im planning on swapping a singled 1jz into my corolla.

I haven't sat down and figured exactly what I'm going to do where, we have enough equipment and experience here now that we can do pretty much anything. However, I'm planning on using an E58 or E153 transmission with an adapter plate to bolt up to the engine, and trim away the part of the UZ block that interferes with the passenger side axle. I've also considered that the front wheels may very well need to be spaced out a little so that they don't rub the transmission, depending on the length of the whole setup.

Obviously I wouldn't be charging by the hour on these conversions, because with the extra-careful fabricating that we'll be doing, it would be thousands upon thousands of dollars. I'm just quoting a flat rate that will allow us to eat and keep the lights on and do something different :)

What does that have to do with it? We can get your car on a carrier and have it down here in a few days for like $400.

Honestly I don't have a problem with it, though I would wonder why you wouldn't just stick with a Toyota engine like the 3SGTE. However, if you're serious, I'm game. :)

Again I honestly don't care what car it is, obviously I'm a Toyota guy so I would want it to be a Toyota, but whatever you want, if it's something different then I'm probably interested. :)

Well, it's not a bad drive, I would just drive the car up and fly back, you can get a ticket from here to there for like $75. 4AGE Blacktop (the good one) plus 5-speed conversion including all parts and labor is about $5500.

Tweak, I would feel uncomfortable sending my car away for a seriously long time without being able to swing by from time to time to check on things :) I just had a really bad experience with an engine shop over here that kept my car for over 3 months and they didn't do the new engine until I showed up every day begging them to :) I know you have an awesome rep but I still would like to have access to the car and see what was going on for $12k :) I really hope you do find a taker in your local area because this would be the wicked coversion of the century.

    It's your choice :)

    Around $5500 for everything.

Well, you can't.... lol. With enough time and fabrication, anything is possible.

for a v8 corolla, wouldnt you have to strenghten the frame of the car as well?

btw anyone know where to buy the bar that goes across the backseat leg room area?
