Rolling the fenders

Does anyone know of a DIY out there of how to roll the fenders? I thought i remembered Vamp having one, but when i checked i couldn't find it. :sad: Before it got cold, i had fierce rubbing in the back with my tires. 205/17/45 (i know i know). But my car is being repainted right now, so i was figuring i could roll the fenders while its primed, to not risk messing up paint. Thanks for any help!

Here's a simplified version using the baseball bat method:

Materials:
-Jack
-Bat (anything but wood, preferrably)
-An energy drink

1. Jack desired side until you have enough space to place bat between wheel and fender well.
2. Insert bat at top center
3. Drop jack completely until the body of car is resting on the bat
4a. Roll bat outward in any direction
-b. You can also bend bat in such a motion to make the bat almost vertical
-c. Have someone lightly bounce the side of your car while rolling
5. Continue until desired bend is accomplished

I do not recommend the hammer/rubber mallet method because i've heard too many stories of paint cracking. Sure you may get paint chips on the lip that you just finished rolling if you use the bat method, but you should always spray over the lip with something like clear coat or anything that will keep the elements away from the exposed metal body to avoid rusting...

You could rent a lip roller but it's expensive. I used the hammer method. Only a small amount of paint cracked on the lip itself. The key is to use a plastic hammer or rubber mallet. Go slow and take your time. After removing the wheels, hammer a little at a time and inspect the lip as you go.

Energy drink? How about a beer and celebrate!! You will save a grip of cash on tires.

Lip roller = $100+ at the cheapest to rent and very hard to come by unless you live in California, of course where everything car related lies therein...or are surrounded by custom off-road shops. I dont know how much they charge tho...probably the same as renting.

^^Back when I wanted to do this, I searched the whole town of Tulsa and no one had a lip roller...unusual and unfortunate..

Here in Cali the cheapest quote from a body shop was $160 to roll the rear lips. For that price I had to do the job myself.

Just use a hammer and a heat gun.

why rent and do the work yourself when you can pay about the same for someone to do it for you?

Well renting a fender rolling tool in Cali is 50 bucks. The problem is the waiting list. I tried to get on that list and it was insane. You wouldn't get it for like 3 months. It's better to just buy the tool for 300 on ebay. Or better yet, if there are enough people here around the Valley here we could all chip in and buy one and then do them all at once. And I guess whoever wants to keep it should pay a little extra for it.

theres at least two guys i can get the tool from within a day's notice up here. They charge $35 with a deposit and don't really care how long i keep it as long as it's within reason.

Me too. I wish I could get some flared fenders. CF fenders would be insane too.

I've got 205s and their already rubbing like crazy in the rear.

It's probably not the tires it's the wheels. What size wheel and what offset do you have?

I got 15" x 6.5" Konig Heliums 40+ offset. The tires are 205/50/15 Toyo Proxes4s. I can see that if I rolled the fenders, the tires would have just enough room to clear the fender...

I have 205/50/15 Kumho Ecstas on 6.5" 35+ offset wheels with my fenders rolled and I still rub over big bumps, especially if I have people in the back seat.

The guys who did it put a pipe between the tire and fender and moved slowly moved the car back and forth. It seemed like a good idea, but it apparently it didn't do enough. I probably need to roll them more with a bat so I can pull the fender out more.

yeah that is why you are rubbing. you have 205 tires with only 40+ offset. you need at least 44-45 offset to fit 205 tires w/o rolling the fender.

It does give the car a wider stance though. I'll just have to roll well I have the time and money then. hehe

i have a 44-offset and i still had to roll the lips but then again i have 18's

the easiest way (and I've done it myself), is to just take a dremel with a cut-off disc and cut the lip right off, leaving maybe a mm or two and just go over the cut with anti-rust paint.

But won't that leave a sharp edge that could possibly slice through the sidewall?
