So annoyed I just have to vent

I came home from Walmart tonight with my room mate to find his girlfriend sitting in our living room acting like a moron. She see's my Walmart bag and goes on about how I'm the reason there is poverty in America rabble rabble rabble I'm supporting low income rabble rabble rabble. I realize Walmart isn't a very employee friendly coorporation (Okay I know damn well they aren't a good coorporation, but sometimes you just have to go because everything else is closed and you work all day). So the point to this rant she gives me about how I'm such a horrible person is that I'm holding these people down from ever having a better life. My views on the topic? The average Walmart employee (as observation, not factual information) is in their 30s-40s, which means they have had that long to make something better of their lives if they are truely put down by their life.

She counters with "well yeah some people just can't make their lives better."

Well, as a little back ground I'm not really a big fan of that whole arguement. Here's why. Public education, public transportation, scholarships, unemployement offices, etc. You can go to school and get a better education thus leading you to a better career path. She argues "some people just can't get to school because their parents can't drive them to school." To which I argue there are school buses for that purpose and if you can't get a school bus then there are city busses, and if no for that there are taxis. So basically this arguement boils down to an education issue because thats the point she tried to argue w/ me once I brought it up. It goes on like this, ignorance v me.

Finally she tells me if I'm so smart I need to get off my *ss and make something of the world. So I told her I'm a political science major so I'm actually making strives to change the world where as her art major is doing absolutely nothing for the world or herself.

I don't know why I got so pissed with her other than I dont' really like her to begin with and I really hate some one who is A-uneducated and argues anyways and B-won't concede a valid point when its brought up.

Well I feel better now. Thanks.

Yes, Yes, and she works at starbucks so she clearly knows world politics (talk about an evil corporation).

I mean I can understand in small cities where Walmart comes in and turns the whole city in a ply wood town where blame could be put on Walmart, but in a city like where I live if it weren't for Walmart there would be hundreds of unemployed and probably homeless people running around.

*sighs* gotta love the "OH I KNOW IT ALL AND YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT" type of people...... she needs to get a life, stop judging others and worry about making HER OWN LIFE better instead of pointing fingers at others by what they do or don't do..... man I'd just walk away..... people need to lay off on the judging.............. A job is a job, many that work at walmart are or either disabled or retired or they don't have much of a choice at the moment you know, what she has to realize is that the people with no choice at the moment might have a family to look after and stuff so they swallow their pride and just work to support the house but obviously she doesn't seem to know about that. Human beings need to experience before they can learn the truth of reality.

hmm i tend to agree with the first comment left... slap the bitch. :) ok... so not really, but anyway... where does she come off interjecting herself into your business? i would, despite the fact however much i would love to slap her, inform her as politely as possible to butt out. i agree with eric, she sounds stuck up and spoiled. let's see her do something about it rather than just bitch.

I work at Wal-Mart. I've worked at the same store since I was in highschool and still work there now that im in college cuz they're awesome when it comes to school schedule compatibility. Lemme lay down some facts:
-75% of all items in your average supercenter are purchased from domestic markets
-average walmart employee makes $10 and something cents. They compared that to Target, $8 and something, as well as other grocery and retail stores average salary. I think they included Best Buy in the report too.

There are a bunch more that I cant really remember, lol, cuz its on the computer at work where they have all the reports. Aside from that, its not like anyone is forced to work where they do. No one was forced to work at my store or any other store im sure. They couldve been making the same "poverish" amount elsewhere if they wanted to.

I agree with all of the above points made so far, as many of them are very insightful. You are merely a consumer, in no way are you directly contributing to the economic well-being (or detriment) of Wal-Marts employees. You're only shopping there. From a social standpoint, Wal-Mart plays a large role in creating jobs for people in inpoverished communities; namely for those who are normally unemployable elsewhere, who lack the skillset to be involved todays knowledge economy. Any job (even one at McDonald's) is better than no job at all as everyone needs some sort of income to support themselves and their households. This also ensures that citizens who can't find jobs don't turn towards illegal means of making money (the underground economy, getting involved in selling drugs, dealing weapons, and joining gangs) when they get desperate.

But they are also there by choice. She needs to understand the economics of how corporate business actually works before making a stereotypical statement that generalizes in some cases and offends you. Most corporations are in the game to make money... this also applies to Starbucks. While the ethics of some corporate decisions are questionable at best, this usually doesn't play as a factor to consumer decisions when they are choosing where to shop. We merely look for the best prices we can find.
Simply put, if she doesn't like Wal-Mart, then she doesn't have to shop there. That's her choice. She has no right to criticize you.

I personally love the 24hr supercenters cause I can go and shop late since I work most of the day and without mountains of people fighting over things during the day lol..... I just still don't understand why she just got up and attacked you just cause of u shopping there lol

Yeah, but some argue that Walmart brings down local economies because they push out smaller business's (mom and pop type stores)

thats the only valid arguement I think she could have used, but she didn't....but as I stated in a city like where i live there is no mom and pop type economic structure. everything here is corporate so walmart just provides jobs for the jobless.

Yeah well the same argument can be made of Walgreen's and Blockbuster also. Its the nature of business, and most people who have never been in business just tend to think differently; usually in a typical good vs. evil scenario. Total crap...

I worked for an old drug store that got put out of business eventually. Was it WAlgreen's fault? No. The consumers could have not shopped there, but they chose to shop at that place. Walgreens did not close the other store, just as I do not believe WAlmart closes out other stores. Yes it sucks but if a town really wanted to they could refuse to shop there. (Which will more than likely never happen because people love new and exciting things for the most part; whatever is in the "now")

That girl is full of opinions and has a bad attitude; the worst kind of person IMO. I cannot stand those people. I probably would have kicked her out of my home, physically, while my roommate watched. lol Someone else said it earlier that people need to stop judging so much, at least out loud. lol Think what you want. I admit sometimes I judge in my head, but the thought may be rude so I try to dismiss it rather than be an ass and say it. Then I also feel like a jerk for even thinking it. lol But I digress...

Yeah, also no surprise that this uneducated jack ass praising her lack of intelligence is a product of FGCU...possibly the worst university ever as far as education...I've never met so many stupid people in one location (let alone a facility for higher learning). She's back over here tonight...and last night...prolly tom. night too...Moving seems like a good f*cking option right now.

Haha oh man it's so good to hear someone say those words. I also thought so too, but only met one other person during my time there who felt the same way so I thought maybe it was us but now that I go to a real college I know I was right. Alot of the kids that go there are huge tools and/or just flat out dumb.

No, one of the ones down at Coconut Point.

So, I come home from work today (no one else is home) and I'm in my room changing and start to hear noises inthe living room. Wtf? So I walk out and she's in the living room and acts surprised I was here. So i give her a weird confused look and she was like "um, I'm cleaning your apartment." Uh, not so much cuz I cleaned it completely spot less 2 nights ago. I'm really confused/annoyed right now, lol.

Yeah it would be a bitch to drive from Cape Coral to FGCU everyday. Traffic is bad enough then you have the bridge tolls on top of it.

LOL you should join the military ... talk about a whole mess of stupid people trying to work together and serve the country and protect it. It's hilarious. Ask Nathan ... he's only been with me since Dec 2005 and he can't stand it, he's not even in the military.

Anyway as far as that girlfriend of his goes ... tell her to go sip on her Chai tea and paint a picture of a better world without Wal Mart, Wal Greens, Blockbuster, Best Buy all of them and to see where the econmy would be then. She needs to shut her pie hole up...like a few people said ... kick her in the ovaries and slap the bitch when she's down on the ground from that.:signIdiot

i hate those commercials that compare the ceo's salary to that of a regular worker. its not the ceo's fault that the regular worker probably half-assed it through school and can't get a normal job at over 30.
