Recommend me a good amp for these speakers

I don't know much when it comes to car audio. I want to keep everything small and compact. I have these speakers, and was wondering what is a good amp for them?
Is it absolutely necessary to power speakers with an amp?

Those speakers could only handle 35W RMS. Your typical aftermarket HU puts out 22W RMS. Amping those speakers would be overkill IMO.

Amping is overkill unless you have a stock h/u or if you are running some show quality sound system.

I'm just worried about blowing them again, this is my second set.

Some guy told me that all HU put out the same amount of power (around 15W RMS Max) no matter what it's rated at and that I should amp speakers all the time to avoid underpowering them and blowing the voice coil.

    Should I believe him?

i doubt underpowering will blow a voice coil....but overpowering will most certainly do it. 35W is pretty weak for aftermarket. Its been a while since I looked at my booklet but I think my components in my Civic can handle 50W...

underpowering does not blow voice coils, overpowering does. And most aftermarket HU puts out 22W RMS. You should look up the specs on yours.. they're not all the same.

I have an Alpine CDA-9835 lying around, rated @ 26W RMS.

Is this is a good match for the speakers I chose?

Yes, I wouldn't bother amping them them. If you have speakers like the JLXR I have which handles 75W RMS then you should get a amp to maximize their potentyial. But since yours are rated at 35W RMS I wouldn't bother. Most 2ch amps out there puts out at least 150W.

I guess that guy who gave me bad advice was only after a quick sale, heh.

Thanks for the always helpful posts. Things are making a lot more sense to me now.

I will when Alpine releases something better ;)

Its definately a step up from stock. But the head unit alone should be all the combo you need for your speakers. I mean I guess you could run like a 40w amp if u really wanted to, lol.

you could use 140w 4 channel amp. I had a stock HU with some low end MB quarts awhile back :)
