    Shawn "Lights Out" Merriman

The linebacker for the San Diego Changers. The guy who was given a four game suspension for testing positive for steroids and started serving his suspension period sometime in November. Those are the high points of the news headlines. For more information, research it.

Anyways, for those of us who know whats up, Merriman is my favorite player in the NFL. He is actually the only reason why I would watch the NFL cuz I usually only watch College Football if I watch football. To put it in simple terms, he basically kicks ass.

But what I think about this whole ordeal is that.....he is innocent. I take in his defense. I want to hear someone tell me im wrong and explain themselves before I explain myself....unless of course, you agree with me. Comments.....

So whats the big deal here? He violated the leagues policy, regardless of whether or not it was done to his knowledge. Players are supposed to check with the team doctors in regards to all of nutritional supplements that they ingest.

He even admitted himself : "Merriman held a press conference announcing he was dropping his appeal, and would sit out four games, stating "Yes, I did something unknowingly, but at the same time I did something that was against the policy...".

What I dont understand is how you could only watch NFL for this guy......hes a linebacker!

Well actually, I like watching him play cuz he plays to hurt people. At his early 20s, he's already racked up an impressive number of sacks. In an interview he commented on a game when they were playing someone that scored 41 points on their team during his suspension, he said "No one has ever scored 41 points on me". I dont know about the accuracy of that statement but his determination for the game is crazy. People from ESPN to his coaches past and present call him a psychopath who isnt out there to play, but to hurt people.

Newayz, he tested positive for a steroid. The steroid in question was nandrolone. Nandrolone is sex hormone drug and in his case, to produce more androgens. My Drug Guide book says the drug peaks after 3-6 days of taking the drug. Also, the injectable drug stays detectable in the body for at least one year. It's usually available in small 1 or 2 milliliter vials at 100mg/ml. My book also says that it increases red blood cell production as well as its volume. Well we all know RBCs carry oxygen to the body. If you increase the size of the each and every red blood cell, it can carry more oxygen and take away more waste allowing your organs to perform better. Well, its also a sex hormone to produce more androgens. These are basically the opposite of estrogens, meaning nandrolone would increase the amount of testosterone in his body. Your body naturally produces all of this, androgens, steroids, and all.

He was tested by the NFL for steroids and came back positive for Nandrolone. Yet, the next day, the NFL wanted to retest him....but it came back negative for any steroids at all. They retested him multiple times over and over after he tested positive the first time but he still continued to test negative. Interesting since nandrolone stays in the body for at least a year. But the NFL felt that the first test showed an abnormal number of hormones in his body and it convinced them enough to issue him a four game suspension. Merriman says he took supplements just like the kind you can find anywhere else, like GNC, etc. Although the injectable liquid form of the steroid can last in the body for up to a year, the powder form only stays in the body for a day or two. Merriman said he didn't know the supplements he took were "tainted" with steroids and that if he did, he would not have taken them. He plans on sueing the makers of the the supplement but will not give the name of the supplement until he makes a legal move since they makers could sue him for giving them a bad rap. He is also trying to talk to members of Congress to bring up the issue with them so they can do something about it and make sure it doesnt happen to anyone else. Reason being is that supplements are not regulated. He wants Congress to fix that.

So yea, he took the powder form unknowningly. This powdered form is weak and is pretty much just like creatine. Its not like he went somewhere so someone could stick a needle in him to give him the injectable steroid. It was a powder ingredient in his supplement. If he took it and he knew about it then I would say that it was all his fault, easily. But I blame it on the manufacturers.
