    Rear Disk Conversion R&D

Well I've converted the rear brakes on Project Hellish Mantis to 5-lug disk. I'm thinking about selling this as a kit now that I know what changes need to be made.

This will work on all the '98-'02 Corollas, and as far as I know the '93-'97 as well. The cost of the conversion will be $200, plus the needed parts. You need the rear hub and backing plate from a 6th generation Celica, '94-'99. I can source the parts for you if you like. Of course you also need the caliper, rotor and pads, you can get the used ones or new ones. The total cost including shipping and parts will probably be around $500-$600.

The kit will be bolt-on except for one thing, the parking brake cable will need to be shortened slightly, and I'll include instructions for this. The bolt pattern will fit Celica 5-lug wheels, along with the new Corolla/Matrix wheels at least, probably some Camry wheels too...

I'm still researching different ways to do the rear disk conversion, including how to do it without going to 5-lug...

yeh u need to find a way to do a 4 lug rear disc, cuz it would be pretty hard to buy two same style wheels but diff bolt patterns.

Yeah no doubt, basically you would have to do the front conversion as well, which I'm working on.

    Well, I'm on it!

If there's interest then I'll get on it. I just need to hunt down some parts, and then find a car to do the R&D on! HAHAH

A 4-lug conversion for us 93-02 people would be greatly appreciated. I'd put the cash down for one.

4-lug conversion would be nice..can't you use parts from an AE92 GTS for it?

I heard so, but recently there has been some discrepency about that. A kit would be nice though, since AE92 GTS's aren't that easy to come by.

    I'm so dumb.

I just thought of an easy way of doing this. In fact, I can start with these kits right away. Okay, I'll be back in a couple hours with the prices.

As for the actual rotor and pads, I might as well not include them since people will probably have specific ones they want, right?

Or it could be an option...

i think if you have the option of including rotors and pads, that might sweeten the deal a little for us...hehe.

but def have it as an option.

    *waiting for prices...anxiously*

Well, it's taking more than a few hours, but I know how I'm going to do it, I just need to make sure that it's done right so it all fits nice. :)

    It's coming.

And yes, it will involve some parts from other cars.

Okay, a very wild estimate will be around $400 for just the conversion, or $500-$550 including rotors and pads. Not bad, huh?

Everything will bolt up *except* for the parking brake which will need to be shortened about 1/2 an inch. I will include a cable shortening kit to do it, it's not a bad job.

Plus shipping. I'll have more accurate prices as I get the parts I need...

    So, who's interested?

    4 lug?

I won't be doing brakes for a little while but supposedly Sean2Sean has a place working on a kit as well. If a rear conversion is available when i get to that point... GREAT!
