    Cluster swap trouble

Hey guys, Im in the middle of swapping my non-tach clutser for one with tach. I swapped everything over but the mph needle is reading 40 mph at idle. How do I fix this?

hmm it should work no prob then, cuz i have a 2001 and i swapped a 2000 in there and it still works fine, just the blinker problem but is easily fixed.

Maybe I set the needle in wrong? but why would it start moving before the car is even out of idle?

i dont think so, cuz wit my car off i could just push the needle up manually all the way around and it would still go back to 0, maybe your missing the spring underneath? i dunno for sure.

Nope, swapped everything over without a problem. I made sure to watch for anything like that.

What about the other speedo section is it o.k. ? Does the needle drop down to the peg when car off ? Did you take the face or the needle off ?

The other one is fine but I need the ODO for the new set, so I swapped the ODOs then the faces. In order to take the face off you have to take the needle off.

Ok I went and played with it, this is what I figured out. For some reason the speedo is reading the fuel level. I unplug the one for fuel and they both reset to zero. Wtf?

How'd you take the needle off w/o breaking anything?? I'm afraid to remove the needles on mine.

Hey, 2krolla I have the wiring info if you need it, PM with E-Mail address and I will get it to you. The swap for those years is 100% P&P. What is the mileage on the speedo you are trying to use ?? ( I have an extra speedo 75K on it) Also if the other speedo section is working o.k.?? I would think that the wiring is correct.

hey, i figured it out. the same thing was happening to me - when you pulled your needles off, and put them back on, it screwed up the calibration.

take the needle off, turn the car to on, and then CAREFULLY install the needle about 5-10mph below the stopper, then move the needle up over the stopper. drive around, have a friend drive at a consistent speed down a stretch of road to ensure everything is all set.

more gauge cluster weirdness i noticed though, the 2000 Corolla's have a diff. cluster than the 01-02 S's in terms of wiring. There is no rear-defrost on the 01-02 cluster, (i guess the light is on the a/c panel on those models), and if you swap the left turn signal w/the rear defrost wire to correct that issue, the high-beam light doesn't turn on if your rear defrost is on. strange. I think i'm gonna manually wire the rear-defrost onto the cluster, in which case pin 3 on connector B, according to craig's diagram, pretty much does nothing.
