    Oil Change...

so i go to the dealership to get a TSB done, airbag light checked and an oil change.

He gives me the slip to sign saying i agree to things and the oil change is listed as 63.00!!!! I was like WTF?! he said the 07 camry's take synthetic oil. Another service advisor told him to check just incase cause not all the 07's take the same oil. sure enough on the oil cap, it listed synthetic oil.

now i must learn how to do my own oil changes...63.00 is way too much money!

Its not that hard to do your own oil change. I do it myself on all three cars and does not take more than 20-30min per car.

I was even given a link to a site that tells me where to take my oil. found a few spots around me. not bad at all.

Then it should NOT say synthetic. you have the same engine as my mom's '05 Camry. the 2AZ-FE mated to either the 5-speed Auto, or 5-speed Manual. They just changed the labeling if anything, but same engine.

Autozone takes oil for free I believe. Also now the synthetic part on how its not neccessary, its too late now. They already put in synthetic. Going back to conventional is now bad for the engine.

IT is debatable, but most people after doing studies say that it is ok to go back to regular dino oil after using synthetic.

The real question is what did the car have from factory? If in reality it needs synthetic, then you should do synthetic.

63 bucks is pretty low for a regular vehicle, the Hybrid comes out to 70 bucks and the damn things takes 3.2qts of oil! and its only a 1.3L 8-Valve VTEC! its tiny!

IMO it really isn't simple to change back to conventional because of the thinness, grade, viscosity and lubrication specifics. and metal absorption.

One other thing, if you are running synthetic, then you should be doing 7500 mile oil changes.

screw that just because its synthetic does not mean it will create sludge, i still change all my engine oil at 3k no more than 3.5K miles.

That is true. Why take the risk? I do mine between 3-5k depending on how much time I have.

First off, Happy New Years to everyone reading. It's that time of year where you miswrite the date on your checks for the next month or two. Anyway,I have to do my oil every 3000 miles because of my turbo, especially since I've been road tuning the car on my own. I try not to let it go past too much, like maybe 4000 miles max. As for filters, I only use the Toyota ones because they work the best (Stay away from FRAM, but hopefully you know that already). There IS some stainless steel reusable oil filter that I think they sell in the UK. I ran accross a thread on NewCelica.org or SpyderChat.com in case you want to look that up. I would love to use one of those for my car if they work as well as I hope do. As for oil, I was sticking to Mobil 1 full synthetic, but have recently switched over to test out the Penzoil Platinum oil. The formula is supposed to rebond the oil molucules backtogether if they break down from excessive heat. I know some people think it's a bad company, but hey... I'm in the brocess of rebuilding my engine anyway... might as well see if it works. I'll definitely post up what I find out whenever I my block gets done at the shop. As for the oil, they have them at Walmart for $4.49/69 I think.

price wise it beats what i pay for mine at 9.70 a QT., road tuning does have a lot to do with it so i can see why, BTW, what type of oil cooilng system do you have if you do have one and how do you have it routed?, also whats up with the discs?

You guys running syn tranny fluid? Im at 33.5k miles right now on my 01 and I believe its time for a tranny flush. Was thinking Mobil1 Synth but not sure of all these different types of tranny fluids. Dexron and MEcron and all this crap. What should I use?

Sorry, dont mean to hijack thread ;)

I have no oil cooling system in place yet. Been running fine without one so far. As for the discs, can you find a matching set of front discs over there? I forgot what you posted in the other thread and I don't have much time to search and check at the moment.

I'll add an oil cooler eventually. Right now, the temps are holding under 200 even when boosting. I definitely need at least two sets of fronts and rears for hazer and me.
