    01 almost stalling...

My 2001 automatic transmission Rolla recently was at the dealership for a complete seal set replacement for using massive amounts of oil. My PVC valve and other gaskets and seals were all replaced. Now, occasionally at a stop, either in Drive or Neutral, my car will almost stall. The RPMs will drop from 600 to 400 and start to stutter. I have to switch to neutral and rev the engine to keep from stalling out. Any suggestions?

check the fluid level at warm and on a level surface check that first the write back on any future problems.

Clean the maf. My car would almost stall after I got my injen SRI. I have to clean the MAF every so often now.

Thanks for the replies. I did check fluid lvl and it is fine. MAF was actually personally cleaned about two months ago. I will check it again but I don't think it should be dirtied to the point of stalling..?

plugs...change them. most likely, it's an ignition issue.

plugs were also changed out to new by the dealership when they opened up my engine to replace all of my seals. Any other possibilities?

it's not throwing any codes? are you absolutely certain they swapped the plugs?

change your fuel filter recently? based on your description, the car's running lean...my car was doing the same thing for awhile, and it was an ignition issue.

Fuel filter is in the tank for 98-01. Cant change it unless you drop the tank.
My car does that too and its from the maf sensor getting too dirty from the injen sri.
After i clean it, all is fine.

location of the fuel filter doesn't refute the fact that it may very well need a change, particularly considering the age of the vehicle. ;)

no codes and confirmed new plugs. also, the MAF is clean. however, the fuel filter may be the issue. i'll have it checked out.

Don't you just have to remove the back seat to get to the fuel pump/filter?

    dward3,

yes, i have a generic short ram intake. however, before the dealership replaced all of my seals and gaskets, there was no near stalling at all.

With an SRI, my idle dropped a little too (A/C off). Try resetting ECU. Plus, clean your air filter and intake tube for beginners. :D

why does everyone forget about the throttle body when they talk about cleaning the intake? the TB gets just as dirty as the rest of the intake system, and probably needs to be cleaned.

sounds like a vaccuum leak to me. what was the nature of the service that they had to "open up" your engine to replace the seals. you said it was leaking oil? pan gasket, valve cover gasket, or front or rear main seals.

my advice would be to take it back to the dealer and tell them the problems that developed after the service they performed.

I had this problem before. I found that my Oxygen sensors had to be replaced. Check your oxygen sensors. How has your gas mileage been? When oxygen sensor goes out it puts our ECM into a loop mode and runs rich and consume more fuel. Anybody have this issue before?
