Oil Leak on a `00 Corolla

    Hey everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has experienced an oil leak coming from the timing chain tensioner. I mean i put in 4 quarts and by 2500miles im struggling to get 1 quart out of the pan. I know I'm not burning oil cause not light blue smoke and the plugs arent oil soaked. The car has 90k coming up on it. I'm planning to do a timing chain on it. I originally thought it might be the valve cover cause theres alot of gunk on the side of the cyl head by the injectors and on the side behind the pullies.

Today I looked underneath and the whole side of the block was soaked and the right axle had some oil on it too. I thought it might have been the oil pan but the gasket looks to be holding on there.

Anyone have any idea where the oil leak may be coming from or confirm that it is coming from the tensioner.

    Thanks.

seals and pvc valve would be suspect. especially if you're not visually leaking or burning it. the internet is swarming with the same problem on the 98-02 corollas. i was burning several quarts of oil every two months. no smoke, no leaks, etc. took it into the dealer and made sure i was present when they took my engine apart. my seals were all reduced to dried out rubber. one of my seals actually crumbled in my hands. they replaced all my seals and my pvc valve. to date (1 month later) my oil lvl is still at full, no problems yet. hope that helps.

how you had problems beats me. but the seals that Toyota has put were basically all silicone so they are not going to last. I had custom seals made at the local performace shop, though expensive they were a worthy investment. i have had no oil leaks of anykind on my engine.

I just had the timing chain tensioner fixed on my 01. It started at about 130k miles.

I seem to also be having a leak somewhere on the driver side of my engine bay. Ive noticed a puddle of oil in my driveway under my car the past couple days. Its not a big leak by any means. probally a few drops a day.

However when I jacked up my car and looked it it (i have a manaul transmission), the oil was plastered all over the trans, all over the drive side axle. I though I had an axle seal going. Ive yet to have it further inspected however.

I had the exact same scenario. My head gasket and serpentine belt tensioner were also leaking.
