not bad for the car at all... unless you stick at the fuel cutoff, but just bouncing off of it everyonce is ok.

What do you mean if your engine is built for it? Do you mean if its a stick?

there are so many things that go into play that you should never really redline your engine, especially if its a corolla stock engine, the corolla's piston rings are so close to the combustion chamber that they get damaged easily if you change the rings to a lower setting on the skirts around the rings.

keep doing it and over time quite rapidly they will wear out and black smoke will start coming out of the exhaust.

I redlined my auto last night. I do it once in a while when hard accelerating, but that's 'cause my transmission can't currently shift fast enough for my engine.

I have never red-lined my 01 manual. The other day i shifted at 5,000ish on a highway on ramp. that's the fastest I have ever revved it.

Vamp, Have you considered a manual conversion? It doesn't seem at all beyond your abilities.

my car doesnt' let me rev it when cold its odd....
it doesn't down shift and when i accelerate it will noly go to like 3 or 4k tops before it shifts no matter how hard i press on the gas.... it only redlines once its a centimeter past the cold line

Thats normal, it's a Toyota safety feature. My '96 Camry V6 is the same. If you peg the gas to the floor and car is not to temp, I can't pass around 4500rpm's. I try to drive it really really easy till up to temp, then it gets redlined everytime I accelerate, hehe. :D

But yeah, it's just a safety feature that takes stress off a cold engine. My friends '92 V6 Camry does it, and he actually asked me about it last night thinking something was wrong.

I'm not planning on a manual conversion... at least not for a while if I do. I barely have time to work on my short block, let alone rewiring and doing a conversion.

never redline when engine temp is cold, always let the engine warm up first

as on topic, i redline mine once in a while, couple times a month.....probably a lil more than that...

its a SIGN don't revv all the time!

i red line quite a bit when i shift it manually but other than that it stays on auto most of the time, I also run AMSOIL Turbo formulated, the engine will not go past 3K rpm cold and turbo is disengaged until the engine warms up

what did you do? i have gone through three engines already and overrevving was a big factor in those engines giving out.

trust me i redline the shit out my car especially when it hits the 8K mark but then it scares the crap out of me for i would have to buy another engine.

Just because vehicles CAN go to redline doesn't mean they are designed to do it all the time. I learned this the hard way as an 18 year old with a Firebird. I blew a rod because I drove that thing to redline almost all the time.

I'm not hatin' on stock-ish corolla's here, but face it, redlining isn't going to get you going that much faster.

Be kind to your car unless it's built for high power and hard acceleration, and it'll be kind to you. It's why I've got 81k miles on my truck and no problems.

my 98 went over 100K and thing just kept going, and going, and going, not to mention all the shit i put it through, it was basically an energizer bunny until fucking teenagers decided to get stupid and jacked my shit!!!!!!!!!!!,

okay back on topic i redlined it and once it would hit 6500 rpm its was like a diesel but never any problems with the tranny or the engine, when toyota added the VVT-i in 00' it was like im having even more fun with a broader powerband.

my car ain't stck anymore but even stock i revved the crap out of it, and man did the engine smoke like crazy! my 01 has 65K on the chassis and 36K miles on the newer engine that is now heavily modified, so hopefully it won't give out as quickly.
