Yesterday I went to a local shop because I got two 12" and the guy there said that you can. You got to bridge them or something like that...
Sorry, I can't help you much but I know that you can use a mono amp.

you can either use a mono amp or 2-channel amp............

you can bridge your subs to the mono amp........or power them with a 2 channel amp.......one channel to each sub..........

make sure though your amp will handle the impedance of the speakers ran together.. if you are running two dvc 4 ohm subs then you will have a final load of either 1 or 4 ohms depending on how you wire it.. in this case you will need a 1 ohm stable amp, or otherwise you might as well get a 2 channel amp and bridge it..
you probablyl have two 4 ohm subs though so you will have a final load which is 2 ohms, in which case a class d mono amp would be the way to go since most of them max power at 2 ohms (the most popular store brands anyways)
