hid kit comes with new bulbs and a ballast used to charge up the new bulbs... like 3 times the lumens than our 9006 bulbs

HID's operate much like a fluorescent light bulb. The HID capsule varies from a Halogen bulb only in the fact that it lacks any kind of filament. HID = High Intensity Discharge. Basically, electricity is arced between two points thereby electrifying or exciting the gas within. This produces light and heat. The intense light is what you're after....

So there is no relationship with any kind of Halogen or "HID-like" bulbs with true HID.

Lumen is a measure of light. The 9006 (low beam) bulb that's in your car emits about 1000-1100 lumen. A 9005 (high beam) bulb emits about 1700 lumen. In contrast a true HID capsule emits about 3200-3400 lumen.
