Engine anyone use seafoam before?

anyone use seafoam before?

i'm going to pick up some seafoam tomorrow and treat my car with it. i figure it could use it. i've read that you can put it in your oil and you can put it in your gas. also, my interesting, you can run it through your intake.

it says to run it through the pcv valve or through the brake booster vaccuum line. i feel more conformatible with the brake booster line. a lady that i work with says it works well and it'll smoke like crazy out the exhaust, but it really helps clean out your engine.
oh yeah, is this the same stuff as marvel mystery oil?
so, anyone use it before?

Yeah, the first time I ever used the stuff, I had no idea it was gonna smoke like that....scared the holy sh*t outta me.

However, sadly, you can't use it through the intake manifold on 2003+ Corolla. Most intake manifolds have the intake runners BELOW the plenum so the seafoam will travel DOWN (by gravity) into the intake runners and get into the combustion chamber. Well, on '03+, the intake plenum is below the runners, so the stuff just pools inside the manifold and doesn't go anywhere until it evaporates and that's no good. Anyone know a solution to this?? Putting it directly into the spark plug tubes maybe??

i don't think it will hurt your engine too bad, from the ingredients, it's petrolium distillates. so it's sorta just like a concentrated purified gas with detergents etc. also, it's oxygen sensor safe and catylic convertor safe.

so, i tried it today. i disconnected my brake booster hose cause i didn't want to mess up the pcv valve (i seem to have bad luck, so stick to the easy stuff) anyways, the engine kinda revs up and down when you disconnect it. so i had it suck up a third of the bottle. but, it sucked it all up at once, i wasn't carefull enough. so, then it says to turn off the ignition and let it sit for 5 mins, well, it had already shut off the engine from sucking too much at once, so i pulled out the keys and went inside for a little bit...5 mins later, i crossed my fingers and tried to start the car. it didn't want to start for the first 20 seconds or so, sounded like it wasn't getting gas...then, it turned over, but the idle was really really low, so i tried to raise it by giving it a little gas, but that shut it off...then i started it again, and the idle for low for about 10 seconds, then i raised back to normal. then the fun came, i revved it about 1/4 of the way for a couple of minutes, varying my revs and so on, and all this white smoke shoots out the tailpipe, it was hillarious because i was over my friends house and his mom didn't know what was happening, she thought i killed my car or something. so, after a couple of minutes when the smoke went away, i took it for a drive.

let me tell you, if you want instant results, use seafoam. i must have had terribly clogged injectors before, because now, i totally feel a difference. it starts up better, it idles smoother, it idles quieter, and it has more power. and i'm not bullshitting here, before i could never get my tires to spin, even when it was wet outside and i had my bald tires. i have new firestone affinitys and i can spin them in the rain no problem. i have an automatic too. i park on a very slight decline at work, so that the front of the car is on the lower end of the decline...and i have to back out of the space...before i did this, i would have to press the gas to back out of the space...on a normal car, you wouldnt, well, now i don't have to press the gas to get out of the space, it idles it for me. my 0-60 has improved from roughly 12.5 seconds to 11.5. i know that might be off, but i have noticed that it gets into gear faster and it revs higher at full throttle. also, i don't seem to have that annoying problem starting anymore...and today was the best day to test it, it was rainy and cold all day, perfect terrible starting conditions.

seafoam has brought new life into my engine.
i'm going to run the rest of the can through my engine tomorrow. then i will also add it to my gas, because it cleans the injectors that way too. you can also add it to your oil and it cleans out sludge and junk from there.
i'm amazed. i've tried alot of injector cleaners and engine quieters, but this one actually works. i would recommend it to anyone with an engine, it'll work on any engine, 2 cycle, 4 cycle, gas desiel..it's really amazing

oh yeah, i don't have any hesitation when i hit the throttle, unlike before. and when i let go of the throttle it goes back to idle, no problem, before it would drop down really low for a half second and then go back to idle

how exactly would you use this stuff
i mean how do you put it into the engine through the vacuum tube...i would really like to try it... im currently having rough idle probs at the moment

disconnect the vacuum tube from the brake booster or pcv valve and with the engine running, just dip the tube into the bottle. Not a good idea to submerge it completely, but just dip it slightly, let it suck a little bit of the seafoam into the engine until it starts to stall, then pull back out, then dip again, repeat ad nauseum.

what exactly are the potential downfalls to using this product? like, is it one of those things that may make your engine "too" clean? disturbing old gaskets, cleaning out important gunk that holds the engine together literally!

im foncused, when you unhook the pcv valve, doesnt it blow air out into the crankcase? or is it sucky sucky? how do you go about using the brake booster line to do it? since you didnt put it in your crankcase, there may be less risk of causing damage.. (if there is any)

well, the PCV hose - disconnect the hose and it sucks air INTO the manifold, but blows OUT of the PCV (crankcase). However, the only real problem is that the engine dies pretty quick unless you can get a finger over that hose (large amounts of unmetered air entering engine...that's a no-go) and get to sucking the seafoam through the hose. The brake line is the same thing...sucks air into the manifold, but nothing's coming out of the brake booster, obviously.

ok, theres this black hose the runs from the right side of the intake, it goes along the back of the intake towards the master brake cylinder...it connects to the large black thing on the firewall. you will see the black rubber hose turns into a metal line half way there, crimp the clip to remove the hose then suck up the seafoam with the rubber hose, couldn't be easier, watch out for the smoke, thats the fun part

oh yeah, i had a mishap with mine today, this is the second time i did it. i sucked it in slowly and it didn't stall the engine, rather, it all shot out the brake booster line and then the air intake shot out smoke. i yelled at my friend to shut off the ignition, but when i looked at him, he had the keys out already, the engine was still running roughly, then a second later it shut off. so i waited 5 mins...then started it. it didn't have that much smoke come out of it. although my engine runs great now...i still have that stupid startup problem still, i thought it would cure it, oh well

jeez, i really want to avoid that..so i guess doing it slowly is key, but why in the world did the vaccum reverse on you?

The intake valves start to open slightly before the cylinders reach TDC, so in essence you have a little bit of backflow into the intake which reverses the vacuum if the engine shuts off just as one of the intake valves is starting to open. Helps with the mixing of the fuel and air.

hey i havea question about the sea foam stuff

whats the difference if u suck it in from the brake boosterline or the pcv hose?
how much should u put in? wouldnt it be the same instead if u just put it in ur gas tank or crankcase?

Where do you buy this stuff?

And on an older engine, wouldn't that stuff clean out all the gunk around your seals/rings and such, causing you to start burning more oil, amongst other things?

so your absolutely sure its going to cure all?

also do they have something to use in the transmission be it for automatic or manual?

thats exactly what i asked- no one knows, but i wouldnt dump it in your crankcase, just go through the pcv valve or brake booster line- and you can get it at any auto store..

i think the brake booster line and the pcv inevitably end up in the same entire vaccum system, so they are all connected- at least this is what i think...

that is true dave, you can use it in the brake booster or vaccum too. not long ago i'd asked my auto instructer about using seafoam, he said theres nothing wrong using it. its just another technique of cleaning the engine. it wont harm any parts in the engine he assumed. (plus he's been a mechanice fo a long time and worked on awhole lota cars than we do, so i trust him, and he's only 27 i think LOL)

ok, you can put it in the oil to clean out the crank case. i would add a bunch before i change my oil, then maybe drive around a little while and change it. i have read that the next oil change after that will have the oil look alot more clearer, because you cleaned out most of the deposits. you can obviously put it through your intake system. brake booster or pcv valve, it's your choice, i like brake booster. also, i've done it on 3 cars, every car performs diffferently when you take off the brake booster line. my corolla goes in and out of revs. my mom's mazda 626 drops the idle and then dies. my friend's pontiac grand am revs highly, to about 5k, then it dies. so, on some cars, you have to get creative. i took and put the hose in the cup of seafoam and had my dad start the car on my mom's car, cause it would die anyways with a messed up vaccuum.
yes, you can also add it to your gas. it suppossedly cleans you injectors this way also. i'll have to do that sometime soon.
they also make seafoam for trannys, i think it's only automatic, but not sure. check out seafoamsales.com
